Default Do you own a Toyota FJ Cruiser? Beware!

    I found this at GMinsidenews.com:

It looks like there is a fairly serious design flaw in the new FJ Cruisers that causes stress fractures along the front body panels in the engine bay. The fractures are a result of light offroad use (What the truck was supposedly designed for). Fractures are occuring in stock trucks and in modified trucks.

I'm still trying to figure out who would want an FJ. I think those things are hideous.

I think they're great looking myself....

With an issue this bad, Toyota will have to admit the problem and come up with a solution...the FJ is just too expensive of a vehicle to have this problem.

I'm not an off roader and find the whole thing with jacked up Jeeps to be a bit "Joe Dirt", but whatever floats your boat....seems like Jeep seems to have this market nailed down......
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

Jeep kinda has it nailed down, but they keep doing dumb shit like going independent front and making not-as-capable vehicles. Jeep purists complain about sacrificing off-road capability for on-road ride.

the Jeep aftermarket is HUGE. the Toyota FJ had a good start because it's built on an existing platform. GM/Hummers are expensive to lift correctly.

the H2 and H3, while IFS, are decent offroaders and they supposedly have an H4 coming that will compete with the Wranglers.

The H4 is confirmed for 2009 or 2010 I believe.

My dad has a 78' FJ40 and that thing is a total tank. The thing about them is that not only do they hold up, but off road they are tough to beat. Personally, I don't care for jeeps. The new ones (well any of them actually) are crap. They may hold up for the first couple years, but after that it's down the tubes.

i dunno, my Wrangler's 9 years old and i haven't put too much money in it.

i have just around $2k in my 20 year old Jeep...$1200 in the wheels and tires, $400 in the paint job, $150 for the tonneau and a couple hundy in seats. doesn't get real good mileage but it starts up when i want it to.

Yeah, I suppose there are some exceptions. I've just known several people who have had Jeeps and ended up getting rid them for reliability reasons. I like Jeeps don't get me wrong.. I'd buy one, but I'd just have 'reservations'. I'd think that your particular Jeep is holding up so well is that it doesn't have a lot of the electronic "crap" that the newer ones have. The older Jeeps and FJs don't have all that stuff, and that's probably one reason they've held up so well.

i find it hard to believe that i have the only "good one" out there.

people that have problems with things they buy tend to complain louder than people who have no problems with the same products.
