September 10th is what the local classic rock radio station has been saying all day. Believe it's 10am. (Shows how much I listen).
They've been giving away tickets all day.

I'll be glued to my computer on the 10th, desperately mashing buttons to get tickets. I finally got smart and blocked my calendar off for at least an hour that morning so no one schedules any appointments. We'll see how the search goes.
    Nothing to see here.

So I saved up a couple grand over the last few months in anticipation for this VH tour. I was going to purchase two 5-Stars for Phoenix earlier today and had the opportunity to do so after logging in to ILAA, but at the last minute I decided not too.

Believe it or not...it wasn't so bad to turn them down. And you know what...it kinda felt good in a way. lol

Van Halen has been my all-time favorite band since I was 11 years old. lol I will go to the show fer sure, but $1600 for two 5-Stars is unacceptable to me. Even the $850 for two tickets in 4-Star is unacceptable. Especially with so much in question about the band. I just couldn't live with myself if VH sucked in Phoenix and I paid $1,600 for the wife and I to go.

So I will try the Ticketbastard thing instead. Maybe we'll get decent seats through them. Maybe not. I think now I wanna put a limit on my spending for this tour of $500.00 for two decent seats from a broker if I can't get lucky from Ticketbastard.

Phoenix will sell that bitch out I'm sure...so hopefully this doesn't come back to haunt me too bad. lol

What's That Sound, I'm proud of you. Walk away from your pounding heart for a moment and think of all the things the $1600.00 you saved up for could buy for you and your wife. $1600 is really an obscene amount to spend on 2 hours of entertainment. I'm not dissing on the band or anything like that, just being practical.

Amen! Tickets used to be fairly priced and fairly distributed but not since the 1960s sad to say. I paid $5 for front row Stones tickets back in 1966. It was first come-first served.

I know everything was cheaper then but it was still less than a month's pay! You could go to Hawaii for a week on that. GAWD! $800 a pop!
    Outrageous!

Remember most concerts dump better seats the closer it gets to concert time. I've gotten many 2nd row seats, the day of just hours before-more times than not-for face. And, I have been inside the ramp at other concerts and it wasn't any better than being outside the ramp. In one case I wish I hadn't been inside the ramp.

Soo-pat yourself on the back. You made a wise decision. Kudos!

Thanks for the support Yesterdays and Carol7lynn. Still no regrets today.

Your Hawaii reference is ironically almost dead on. It just so happens this is the plan now except its gonna be to the Virgin Islands.

My band gets to go to Virgin Islands next month for a 4-show tour (all paid for), but after that my wife and I will stay longer at either St. Thomas or St. John. for a week. We didn't get to go on a "honeymoon" when we got married 15 years ago so this is finally it! Whoo-hoo!

When I told her the news yesterday that I decided not to buy the 5-stars and instead to officially declare that she would be joining me for the whole Virgin Island trip...ummm how do I say...she kinda got a little excited. lol

We might even get married again right there on the beach!

So I can blame Van Halen for all of this. If it wasn't for my love of the band and working hard to save money for tickets the last couple months...I would've never been able to afford to give my wife this vacation. Van Halen was my motivation so thanks VH!!! And I'll still be at the show...it's just I spend the $1600 on a late honeymoon my wife and I deserve!

Below is what I posted a bit ago in another thread and it prolly should have
    went here....
    Alright I'm in........
It's been a while but here goes.
First off Squalen is right....the older I get the less desire I have to go
anywhere with mediocre seats. Hence my 41 year old ass just shelled out
$2385 for 3 - 5 star tix in Phoenix. The truth is I was "lucky" to get them.
I was on it to the second and they were all gone in less than 4 minutes.
Yep at $795 per ticket they were gone in moments. Why? Partly because
I (like most) make a little more now than I did when I paid $12.50 to see them in 1984
and partly because it wouldn't matter if I didn't.
Meaning the bigger picture here is taking my son to see them.
He is 18 and has been unable to catch Dave on his many solo jaunts as he
usually plays 21 and over spots in our area and besides that I promised him a long time ago.
Promised that if Dave ever tours with Ed again I'd take him. I aint rich
but I got the cash and in an effort to make it the most it can be I went 5 star.
Is it a jip? Absafrickenlutely~! It is horribly overpriced and the fact that you don't get to know your seat
location until day of is near criminal!
Having said that...my kid is a home run, he goes to college full schedule and
works at least 40 hours a week all while holding up his end of the deal at home.
So call it a perk of living with a 41 year old Van Halen Junkie that he gets to go 5 Star and tell his kids someday that he seen Ed and Dave ROCK The House! The day after Thanksgiving 2007.
    --------
Also, I would be interested to know about any bad 5 star experiences folks may have had.
I have never done the whole 5 star deal and am hoping for the best.
I e mailed ILAA and asked how many 5 star tix they sold total and was told
75 not counting radio comps etc.
Either way, I'm stoked to be going with my kid to what will hopefully be
a decent seat to a good show.

    Later
    C.

I knew this would happen!! I will be in CA on Mon. when tix go on sale AND won't have internet access to boot. Moving my oldest son over there this weekend for college and no internet connection in his apt. yet. Guess I'll need to find a Starbucks where I can connect with my laptop or hope that someone in his apt. bldg. has an unsecure wireless connection I can get in on. I should be quite the sight in Starbucks, frantically hitting my keyboard and cussing out Ticketbastard while drinkin' a frappuccino.......

Now that's more like it. Alot more perks and a hell of alot less frustration this way. Have a great trip and I expect a piece of wedding cake upon return .

I too will be frantically typing away at 10:01 a.m. on Monday trying to get a decent set of tix for the PHX show. My parents wouldn't let me go see VH in 1984, I was in 7th grade and mommy and daddy said no way. Anyways, any plans for a pre show place to meet up and pound a few back before the show?
