LG here again seeing that my very first post on here got alot of responses, I figured I would try you guys again..In regards to the 3 tour I am pretty scared of the up-coming tour.
Me and a buddy of mine the one and only BrownSound 2000 caught the show 3 times on that tour,Buffalo,Detroit{Palace)and in Toronto. I have to admit show wise the Buffalo gig was the best I have seen in years it was actually scary but what worries me is the sound man they chose.I have had the honor of seeing this great band24 plus times indoors and out and they have nothing less than a KILLER sound except for this time around..
What sticks out in my mind about VH shows is how clear the sound is, you neber have to listen close to know where Eddie is in a solo, and the bass is perfec every string is distinctive from the next and the drums, I mean the kick and snare are up just right in the mix,at first I thought this is only luck nut they have been so consistent over the years it has been scarey.
Which brings me to my question.I found myself at all 3 shows having to concentrate on finding Eddie in s solo and Al's kick was no where to be found except during the solo not to mention his snare(which is vital in the VH sound)was sometimes more than usual lost in the mix,I don't know why but this has me concerned did anyone else notice this, I mean the sound was still good but far from brown.....What do ya think???

I have to agree with LittleGuitars99, the shows he mentioned were fabulous but for some reason this time around, the sound man must have taken a nap at the wrong time! With Dave back, I am sure since everything about the live show from his perspective will have to be flawless, just like in the early days when even the less expensive p.a. system the band went with, still maintained enough to distinguish the unique Van Halen sound the audience has come to enjoy. However, the 3 tour was much more toned down as far as stage props and p.a. was concerned. Concentrating on more about developing Gary as a frontman and the next generation of Van Halen was top priority. Well obviously we all know what happened with the 3 tour and Gary in general....Anyway getting back to basics with Dave and probably setting themselves up for what should be the most important World Tour in the band's career, nothing less than perfection as far as stage props and p.a. will go over with the guys! And as Eddie has been quoted by a reliable source from Melodicrock.com, Edward is determined to make the next world tour the best yet...hopefully the sound engineer thinks so too..

Guitar sound ??IMO Eddie's playing was over the top , I have quite a few live songs from the 98 tour and to me the guitar sounds really , how can I describe it , the sound does not sound brown to me or warm , it sounds harsh to me , I did not care for the sound that much BUT I thought Eddie was at the top of his game playing wise . I wish he would go back to the Ernie Ball guitar or even the Kramer

I agree with Ed6150, The sound of eddies guitar has taken a turn for the worse But I attribute the sound to the buzzy high gain of the 5150 amps not the Wolfgangs. I own a few Wolfgangs and They really sound fab through my old marshalls. I really would like to see Ed pull out the marshalls again but I don't see it happening.

Ok, so that's my first post. Nice to meet you guys.

LG here again, just so everyone reads my post right(minus my bad spelling) I was not knocking Ed's sound or playing I was talking about the over all PA sound and sound man I thought he had no control over the mix during the show.
In regards to Ed's sound although aloy of fans right away say VH1 or Fair Warning as his bests sounds I would have to disagree and say 1984, I mean his sound on this record is unheard of not to mention his playing ,Drop Dead Legs is incredible not to mention the stuff he has going on in Top Jimmy but the real shit is House of pain, this is arguabley his best work in my opinion its right up there with Push Comes to Shove and Little Guitars, the fade out playing near the end is incredible. Thanks for the replies Guys..

the sound on the last tour was different but i thought it was great nonetheless!

ed did play with copper picks so that will change your sound a bit. i also think that sound was used to cut through gary's vocals. dunno, i might be way off base here. but the two shows i saw ont he III tour (boston and hartford) were fabuloso

I an lucky to have saw VH with Dave(twice),Sammy(five times) and Gary. Most of these times happened to be at Sandstone. Great outdoor venue, but i like arenas too. They sounded absolutely fantastic, at least this night. My best friend, who makes a living mixing for circuit bands agreed. We sat two rows directly behind the boards, and had a cool conversation with the guys running it. The concert was awesome. See ya at Sandstone or Kemper Arena DAVE!!!

I thought the tour kicked ass! It was a nice way to return from that shit Balance act. Also I liked Ed's guitar sound but if you wanna bitch maybe it was because he used metal picks

I did see(VH3)at the Nissan Pavilon in Va. I have seen them twice with Sammy, once at the Knickerbocker arena(Albany NY),it was Eddies birthday and they played at the Hardrock in NYC that afternoon. You could tell because they were a little "Spent" for the show I saw. Another show I saw was at Weedsport NY on the fourth of July on the FUCK tour, that was a great show but it did take awhile before the sound crew tweeked in the mix right. Of the three shows I thought the VH3 "sound" show was the best. For what ever reason some sound crews take quite a long time to tweek in the mix and some get it right by the second song. The VH3 show was teeked in very fast and it was the best I've herd Eddie play of the previous 2 shows. I noticed no difference in the Brownsound. It may differ from concert hall to concert hall.

Eddie's guitar had a VERY dry, classic fuzz sound to it during the 3 tour. It's definately a departure from what he used durring the Balance tour for example.
