    Default Australian Tour

Hi people, I've just listened to Ed's 82 interview, with Guitar World on You Tube. He mentions that they were going to Australia later on 82/83.
Does anyone know, whether or not this happened? I thought the first time they toured here, was 98 on the 111 tour. Thanks, Paul

No, they didn't make it to Australia back then.
They went to do a short South America tour with about 5 concerts instead.

Don't know why they changed there plans though.

Thanks, I didn't think so. I would have benn shattered to learn that I'd missed them then. Hopefully, they'll tour here in a year or so! according to Dave at the recent press conference. Paul.

I saw 2 shows on the 98 tour. Melbourne and Sydney. There was something about that tour that makes it so memorable. There was no Roth or Sammy, but it was a classic "mixed bag" setlist. Gary was a bit campish, yes, but I thought he did a good job.
They had good press and coverage too.

    Hey guys,

Long time lurker, first time poster, and what better way than on an Aussie thread!

I saw them in Melbourne in 98 and flew to Cincinnati in 04 to see them... I fucking hope they come to town on this tour... So many bands coming lately! Telsa just announced, Heaven & Hell a few weeks ago, Alice Cooper, etc... it's been a good year so far.

    Cheers,

    Al

How were those shows? Were either ones that Eddie wasnt up to par on?

The Cincinnati show I went to was fucking awesome, he was on fire that night. Couldn't think of a better way to have spent my 30th birthday!

Indeed. I saw two III tour shows here in the States, Kansas City and Alpine Valley (a several-hour drive for both), and both were extremely memorable. For Kansas City, it was my good buddy and me driving all night to get there, and upon arrival--completely sleep deprived--we decided to get tattoos before we did anything else. Long story short, I went to the VH concert that night with a brand new "VH" logo on my right shoulder. Alpine Valley was just great because I went with my brother; we had a good drive down and back, sat 11th row, and the band was on (as they often were on that tour). I was very accepting of Gary at the time because I figured it was still VH being active, but I realize now as I check out YouTube videos and whatnot that I was suspending a lot of judgment for the quality of Gary's vocals.

I've always felt VH made a critical error by not touring Europe and Australia more.

It was allways a shame that we were passed over for tours, the bands albums sold well here and a lot of people would have gone to the shows, however my info was, that their management wanted too much money, from the promoters. You would be surprised how little some bands know of what management is doing. In 98 Eddie commented on my original logo t-shirt, thinking it was 20 years old, and was surprised when I told him it was a reissue. I thought don't you know about your own mercendise? the local promoter told me that the band was too worried about how Gary would be accepted by fans, and if they were still relevant as a band!

To say Gary was a bit campish is a massive understatement.
I went to the show at Rod Laver Arena here in Melbourne and was left with no other conclusion that Gary ruined the gig.
The band was great but after so many years of having either Dave or Sam front the band it was a massive letdown watching a guy up there who looked more like he belonged in The Village People than VH.
About a month or so later Sam toured out here and that gig was a pub show,he totally rocked and I walked out of there thinking IF ONLY.

Hey Bomber. The Sammy show at The Palace in 98 is my favorite concert of all time!!!! Thats beating the 2 VH 2004 shows, the 2 VH 98 shows, endless Kiss shows over the years, etc.
Sammy knows how to deliver and he did it that night. The Palace held some good memories for me, and that night was the best one.
I hope he tours again. The Palace got burnt down, did'nt it?

Yeah, I was at the Sammy show at The Palace as well. Great show that went for about two and half hours with a variety of songs from throughout his career. Although I distinctly remember Sammy saying 'We'll be back for sure' which obviously now holds as much credence as 'Melbourne, you're the best crowd in the world'. Would be nice if Sammy brought his current tour to Australia as I'm sure that would be a great show to see.

A big pity about The Palace. IMO, it was the best venue to see a band in Melbourne. I've seen countless international bands there over the years, ranging from Faith No More in 1990 through to Fear Factory and Black Label Society last year. They had to close down as the land is to be redeveloped for apartments (suprise, suprise). Thankfully the Espy has held off attempts to be demolished for more apartments.

Now, if only VH4 could come to save Australia as per Dave's comments at the press conference........................................ .....................................
