Default The "All Things Metal" Thread

I'm curious to hear from others about the Metal bands they were/are into. Though VH ruled in the early 80's, the Thrash scene in the Bay Area was my musical center of gravity. The early days of Metallica, Testament, Faith No More, Death Angel, Exodus, etc. was my musical "bread and butter".

I'd be curious to hear what Metal other VHlinkers like. By Metal, I mean anything from the "classics" (Sabbath, Priest), Thrash/Speed (Slayer, old Metallica), Death/Black (Meshuggah), or something newer (Gojira, Chimaira).

I'd particularly like some recommendations. I'll throw one out to hopefully get the ball rolling: Neurosis - Given to the Rising. These guys have been around for 20 years but they're still awesome. This one is their latest and is pretty good.

I love the classic stuff mostly. Maiden, Dio, Queensryche and Megadeth are among many favorites. I also like a ton of sleaze rock type stuff that will probably get me made fun of in this thread (XYZ, ODIN, Junkyard). I tend not to like much metal past Pantera and the heaviest band I like is OVERKILL (I especially like their album "Taking Over").

The older I get the heavier my music gets. Lamb Of God, Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Behemoth, Amon Amarth, DevilDriver, Strapping Young Lad, Trivium, As I lay Dying, In Flames, Dragon Force, Soilwork, Unearth, All That Remains, Children Of Bodom, Black Label Society, Machine Head, Satyricon, Dimmu Borgir man I can't list them all.

I'm an 80's chick so gotta have my metal gods.

Judas Priest, Scorpions, Def Leppard, UFO, Ratt, Whitesnake, Iron Maiden, Tesla, GnR, Great White, Metallica (old stuff), Pantera, Y&T, Girlschool, Motorhead and VH of course. I'll probably think of more or else look at my cd collection but those are the ones that come to mind at this late hour.

Haven't heard too many newer bands that I've liked, other than Disturbed and Black Label Society. Not even sure if Disturbed can be considered metal, but they have guitars so...........

I've liked other bands but I wouldn't be able to name the songs or the bands if my life depended on it! I come across them on the radio but they never say who the band is or the song.

Call it what you want it's all music to me.

EDIT: Can't believe I forgot AC/DC, Skid Row, and Motley Crue!!! Also like the older stuff - Boston, Zeppelin, etc...................

VH, Judas Priest, Old MetallicA, Pantera, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Tesla, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, LA Guns, Racer X, and Dokken. For me growing up it was all about Eddie and George Lynch. They made me want to play guitar.
