Who will Upstage the Mighty VH???

Hey there fellow linkers, I was just thinking about this today so I decided to post the question to you guys. When Van Halen first tour they used to upstage the headlining act out of the stage each night, they did it to Montrose, Journey (which I was more than happy back then, God do I hate that band still...) and Black Sabbath. But let's move to now 2007, Do you guys think there is a band out there who could upstage Van Halen at their peak today.
I just don't think so. I know many of you might say that I'm biased but IMHO, I highly doubt that there is a band out now that can give the boys a run for their money.
And I'm not saying playing fast or loud, there are many of them already. I'm saying as the whole concept, musicianship, showmanship, and overall presence.
    What do you guys think??

P.S. I don't know if any of you are following the FIBA championship of Americas, anyway my Puerto Rico team goes today with Team USA, I just hope that we don't lose so badly...
Anyway have a good one today.

Um, I can think of several bands right off the top of my head that would almost certainly upstage VH given one, two, or all of the following: Mike's absence, Ed's subpar playing, or Dave's subpar singing.

There's a lot of bands that could upstage Van Halen on any given night.

oh all the things that could go wrong with this tour and the idea that someone could upstage them, Dave's singing will not be the cause, and mike's absence will be a non-factor by the time this tour is over, in my opinion. Ed's playing and tone and overall band chemistry will be the things that could let an opening act upstage them
    Van Halen....nothing else is needed....

Couldn't tell you, the only act I have seen that isn't from the 70s or 80s is The Wiggles.

One noticeable difference between Judas Priest and Metallica...
...Judas Priest only has one gay guy in the band.

While I agree with most of what you guys say, I clearly posted Van Halen at their peak, meaning circa 1978 - 1984.

Now tell me Who will upstage them there???

What If time travel threads are a dime a dozen.

That said, since it's all for shits n' giggles anyway...

Howzabout the Jesus Christ-John Lennon-Jim Morrison acid polka fusion trio?

They might upstage classic Van Halen maybe.

AC/DC would blow these guys off the stage during ANY era. Those guys bring it EVERY night. I've seen them both and while I like Van Halen better, the AC/DC show that I saw was the most intense, powerful show that I have ever seen. They also don't have any chemistry problems.

Well I wouldn't say you "clearly" posted when you asked in the title of the thread "who WILL upstage the mighty VH??? If you had have said "who would have upstaged the mighty VH,??? it would have been clear. But the grammar police digresses. In their prime say 79-82, I can't see anyone that would have. AC/DC was a good choice with an above poster though. I will get flamed but Bruce and the E Street Band on any given night, in any year, including this year, out performs any rock act consistently. Like them or not, 3 hour shows, different set list every night, the ability to sell out virtually EVERY single show wherever you play on earth, not to mention amazing respect and connection to the fans.
    I'm going to duck now

    Nobody! PERIOD!

No one could ever come close to the chemistry that they had on stage, not to mention Dave's showmanship, Eddie playing out of his skin, Al's thunderous drumming, Mike's voice & bass sound. There's nothing like the energy & presence of a Van Halen show!!!

    No

    AC/DC are Van Halen's janitors.

In the spirit in which the question was asked (i.e. VH in their prime and at their peak), I don't think there's a band out now that would touch them musically--I specify musically only because I've never seen Roth with VH but have never been very impressed with boots that I've heard of him while he was with the band. I, for one, prefer a tight professional performance in lieu of forgetting lyrics and 'looking at all the people here tonight', but I digress. IMHO, there's not a guitar player out there that matches Edward when he's on top of his game and since his wizardry with the instrument is largely what propelled them above the bands they were opening for back in the day, I don't see that there's a band out there now that could really do that to Van Halen.
