Default Anyone around here use bit-torrnents??

Perfect I spelled Torrent wrong, anways:

I have been looking into the bit-torrent thing ever since my cousin told me about torrentspy.com but I am confused about how they work

Does anyone have a short and sweet answer about how they work and what programs to use

Or how to do stuff like it without security precautions and virus's.

If you're on a Windows PC, use utorrent. Seems to be the fastest client out there, from my experience.

If you're on Linux, use Azureus. (They make a Windows version, but it's Java based, and in Windows that means "resource hog")

Not sure what there is for the Mac users.... don't have one of those.

    Oh yeah.... how it works.....

One person will start out uploading a torrent, or "seeding" it. It may start out slow at first because there will likely be a lot more people downloading or "leeching" the file than seeding.

Proper bit torrent ettiquette says that you at least upload the same number of bytes to the swarm as you downloaded, (in other words a complete copy of the torrent) although you can help seed a file as long as you want, which will help others download it faster.

Those who go offline the minute their downloads are finished without uploading their fair share, are generally considered assholes. Some sites enforce a ratio of at least 1:1, others are less strict about it, provided you aren't being an obvious dickhead and constantly "hit and run" (We all have bad bandwidth days once in a while. More so if you have Comcast.... )

Do you download the client onto your computer, if so how much space will it take up?

its a very small program. it is nothing like limewire or any other downloader. it is just a stand alone program that allows for download and upload of the particular torrent. no other files are available to anyone else, just the one torrent.
the only thing that will take up space it what you are downloading.
