Default john myung vs geddy lee

was just watching some dream theater dvd footage the other night and wondered what many of you think comparing these two.

i've seen videos of both and have heard a lot of music from both bands.

that myung dude is fuckin insane imo, and imo, has some better chops than lee

    thoughts?

I dunno man, it's all apples and oranges...and this is coming from a bass player, OK? Each guy fits in perfectly with the needs of the band he plays in. Both are pretty outstanding, yet if one has to view music as a competition (which it isn't), then they rate something like in the top 125 in rock, the top 175 in popular music and tied for about 178, 986th in the jazz field.

I agree with chef, I dont see the point in comparing apples to orange.

they fit perfect for what they do, both can probably do and play things you will never hear them play. Not to mention Geddy has to sing.

I am huge fan of rush and DT and I have no idea what you would try to compare... then again, I think 99% of what people try to compare out here is a joke. A good player is a good player, if its not your style, then why contribute to the conversation.

Two of my all-time favorite bass players in two of my all-time favorite bands. You can't really compare these two. They're both great in their positions.

I thought these kind of pointless competitions killed/died with shred in the late 80s.

I can't believe no one's asked the obvious question here: where does Mark Stone rank?
