    Default This Left Feels Wrong?

Let me lay the groundwork for this...

At the press conference Dave hinted that the songs would be tweaked a bit...

We know that there had been plans to release a Dave only Best of...

There's all kinds of speculation that the Brothers Grimm are trying to, uh, rub Mikey out of the VH pasture...

Sooo...do you think it's possible that the band might do like Bon Jovi and release a CD of them playing covers of their own work?

If so, would you be interested?

I think it would be touchy...didn't really care for Bon Jovi's "re imaginings", but it might be a little less onerous than just rerecording the bass lines and rereleasing the six pack, no? Plus, we might get an official Van Halen bluegrass rendering of Jump...bet Alex would kill on the thumpjug, and you know Ed has a banjo in 5150 somewhere (just let that thumb hang loose and hang on!)
    I like Van Halen.

Who would release it? Deadline or Cleopatra Records? And call it "Latest and Greatest?"

I, too, didn't care much for Bon Jovi's regurgitation, nor for much of the other bands' that preceded BJ with this idea on indies like the above (but more because they didn't have the release rights to the original recordings).

I don't care for updates of songs (you know, the kind where the attach the year at the end of the title of the newly re-recorded song), unless it's an official studio recording with a new singer, and that should only be done sparingly (like with Bruce in Maiden, but overdone by Anthrax with Bush).

I would freshen up whatever they recorded in 2000, maybe add anything new that would be quick, and put out an EP. Buy my guess is that they want to save that material and tighten it up for a full-fledged release some time next year, when the tour can pick up again (assuming it doesn't fall apart) in support of a new album.

VHIII is the gift that keeps on giving. Any music written in a studio-equipped shitter (read Guitar World circa VHIII time) is bound to have some mis-guided inspiration.

Bands need to leave their past alone. Whenever a band tries to go back and re-do old material it never works. Dave Mustaine fucked up his re-masters by re-mixing a lot of the tunes, I much prefer the original CD's. Ozzy has his Blizzard and Diary which is totally bogus. Just release new material, trying to go back on the past is about as lame as one can get.

That would be interesting to hear VH1 redone almost 30 years later. My personal choice is an album with NEW music.

Yeah WRITE SOME NEW MUSIC FOR CHRISSAKE! Can you imagine, they do an album of covers of their old stuff, then in '09 they'll go on tour in support of the album. Dave gets up to the mic...."this next one is brand spankin new, off of our latest album Van Halen IV..." (cue Jump keyboards)

Why mess with the old......Ed already did that ala Running with the Devil on Best of V.1, and nobody gave a shit....they already put out 2 Best of compilations, and the one with more songs on it sold less. Anyway, the time to put out any recordings would have been now, before the promotional tour. So the question becomes what are they promoting with with this tour and judging from everything ive seen its nostalgia. Ed is selling his guitars and amps, and is probably gonna make plenty of money off that. Judging from history my best guess is that they will do the tour, maybe put out a Live cd and dvd, and go back into hiding.
