If you do a search at the ASCAP database, there is 100 VH songs under MA. None of 1984 or the 3 BOBW songs are listed. Ironically, he is given a credit for "316".

Maybe Eddie took away the credit because he did it all like 3 and the tracks on BOBW. If that's the case, it would make sense for Ed's control issues and why Mikey is still on the other 9 cd's.

Not agreeing that it's right either.

Who knows how much contribution MA gave for songwriting on any of their albums but my take is that its no coincidence that his name was removed from one of the biggest selling U.S. releases of all time and probably VH's most valuable back-catalog item in terms of airplay and sales. Songwriting royalties is the golden goose in the music biz.

And by the way, MA is credited on the VH3 songs according to ASCAP.

I do believe that MA got credit on most songs just for playing on them, but he didn't write any song, all where done by Ed, Al and a singer.

There is something to be said for band chemistry and how it relates to the writing process. However, Al plays drums and from everything I've ever read doesn't contribute to the actual writing anymore than Mike ever did. Of course Al's Ed's brother so what do you expect.

Now, what some people don't seem to understand is that Eddie can't just take writing credits away from Mike, that's not how it works. Mike OWNED the copyrights to those songs as much as Eddie according to the law. So Mike had to agree to give up any credits and I'm SURE got paid (off) handsomely.

If memory serves, MA stated in the Japanese mag interview last year year that he had to reliquish rights as a stipulation for touring in 2004. What rights I can't recall and I'm too lazy to do a google search

Michael Anthony never wrote one note of a Van Halen or Van Hagar song. But having said that, it's a little ridiculous to change the credits (i.e. publishing royalties) more than 20 years after the fact.

I stand corrected. I looked at excerpts from the interview and it stated he took less money for the 04 tour. But, to Hanvalen's point, MA would have had to agree or been persuaded to reliquish rights, perhaps during a publishing renegotiation at some point. He may have been compensated but I would bet it doesn't = what royalties will = in the long term.

You bet right! That's the whole point. If he was going to get as much in the future there would have been no reason to have renegotiated, i.e. be paid off.
