Yes I might just be dumb enough to seriously consider flying from Brisbane Australia to see VH in either LA or NYC so I have some questions for you all.

    1. Is the 5 star/4 star thing worth it for those who've been in the past? How much generally am I lookiing at since the website doesn't say?
    2. How do I collect tickets once in USA since the website doesn't say? Anyone had experience with this concern before?
    3. In terms of doing things whilst in USA, which of the two options is better (LA or NYC).

Never did the 4 or 5 star, didn't have the extra $$$ burning a hole in my pocket.

You could try Will Call for getting your tickets. They'll be in your name at the venue that way.

As for NYC or LA, it's personal preference really. I recommend NYC since it'll be fall and it's great that time of year there. LA is so sprawling, it's harder to see everything you want to see if you're on your own visiting.

Again, it's personal preference. Hope you enjoy it if you get to come!

I did the 4* in '04 and found it worth it to be guaranteed the good seats. If I recall, they were $175 per seat for that tour, and I never sat further back than about the 15th row at three shows i did it for. This tour they are more expensive, but i'll probably do it again. To sit in the 15th row and buy from a broker will most likely cost you $500 and up. Unless you want to wait until REAL close to the show, but that could be risky. If you have the loot, go with the 4 or 5*.

I picked up my tix the day of the show at the box office. I'm pretty sure that is how ILAA is doing it again this time. I had no problems regarding this in '04.

The last question I am big time biased. I live in New York and think NYC is the greatest city on the planet. Plus, MSG is a legendary arena. I would say come party in New York man!!!!

    digadam,

i live in brasil, and i did that for the 2002 Sam & Dave tour. Took a plane, landed in Chicago, met some vhLinkers from the old days and had a blast on the shows.

Back in 2004, i considered doing the same. But i got married and my wife didn't want to spend our honey-moon chasing =VH= on tour in the american midwest. LOL

Now, 2007... be sure i'll be there!!! i'm planning to get some dates around mid december. Maybe a week in a sky resort after the shows.

My advice. If you have the $$$. Go for it, go for the 5 star, go for more than one gig. Once you have the oportunity, you'll regret all your lifetime not doing it.

if you want, we can plan an "international invasion" in one of the shows. i'll be going with my wife, my brother and his girlfriend!!! brazilian invasion in usa!!! lol
=\//-/= LIVE: once again, i'll make it!!!

With all due respect to the Emperor of this site, if you are choosing between LA and NYC and you've never been to either, go to NYC. NYC is just a special city and am lucky that I get to travel there for work quite a bit. Just a tremendous place for a vacation.

I say this as a Californian too.

    Hi Batch!

And to you guys who are debating which coast upon which to descend, I agree, go to New York. It will be easier to get around and you can have your pick of Madison Square Garden (in the center of Manhattan), Nassau Coliseum (accessible by Long Island Railroad) and The Meadowlands (NJ Transit runs shuttle buses on concert days). Yeah, I'm from NY, too, but I lived in LA without a car and it's just not conducive to concert-going.

lol - Hah! I knew as soon as I typed the thread and sent it I had spelt America wrong. Doh! Us Aussies are schooled in the outback you know!

Anyhow, thanks all for the advice. I too am keen on NYC - girl wants Vegas (hence considering LA) but that could be a longer trip down the track .

Now what the heck is Will Call? and does anyone have a link?

    Thanks guys!!!

Someone said how crazy we are for considering flying over - I have an email friend who I met through chats in the old DLR lounge forum in 96/97 (remember that?) and we've kept in contact about all things VH since. Since then I've had 3 kids and been divorced and we still chat and if I go to US I hope to catch up with him. The entire VH community is funny

LA is a shithole (that I call home) and NYC tacks an extra six hours on your flight. Come to Las Vegas. No car needed, no last call, no one looks at you funny if you have a cocktail in your hand at 7:30 in the morning.

Of course that depends on if they ever actually ANNOUNCE the Vegas shows officially.
What once upon a time made Van Halen unique in the progression of metal and hard rock (besides Eddie’s prowess as a guitarist) was its sense of fun, its willingness to be not just over the top, but weird.

You're a Californian? I thought you were from SF?

Yes please EVERYONE stay the fuck out of So Cal, it would be a welcome relief!!!

Last time the wife and I were in NYC in 2004, I kissed the ground when I got home. If I never went there again, I'd be a happy man. No offense to New Yorkers, I'm just a west coast person.

"Will Call" means that the box office will have your tickets the day of the show. Usually you have to present identification and/or the ticket purchase receipt.

At some venues you can pick the tickets up earlier in the day, at others they will have a "Will Call" line in which to stand until the ticket window opens.

    It's not a big deal.
