    Default US Festival 83

Hadn't watched it in awhile. Thought I'd check it out in light of recent events. Could there be anything more pathetic than the harmonica solo from the Full Bug?

Ironic, in that I watched snippets of the Largo show lastnight, prompted by the same recent events. In spite of some of the cheesy and dated things I noticed it left me assured in my conviction that no incarnation of this band will ever match the Mighty Van Halen.

Not that I'm a rothtard, It's just my personal opinion that '81 & '82 were their zeneth years.

    Welcome back, Van HALEN!!!!

...It's the BAND and Dave is really the cat that can front VH. He sang his ASS off and was really cool. No cheese here guys, this is filet Mignon! - Steve Lukather's comment after witnessing a Van HALEN 2007 rehearsal

thanks for that ... i haven't seen that before.

okay i see what ed means that dave never sang on stage, just talked his way through it (although some boots i've seen/heard are spectacular, especially the very early 70's stuff).

i agree with the original poster tho, nothing really comes close to cvh. but then again, even if they had mikey onboard, it still wouldn't be the same ... that was a different time, a time when a live concert actually was something of interest.

today with high technology and all the distractions, even the mighty cvh really isn't anything too interesting, even if they all were still at their 1982 peak or whatever.

like dave said, it's a different band ... regardless of who's in it i guess.

CVH is timeless. Like Mozart, Elvis, Sinatra, Hendrix, and Zeppelin...their music will live on despite the trends or technologies.

Funny, I did the same thing, and came to the same conclusion!! Each of the guys was at the TOP of their game. Ed was untouchable! Pity we dont have an official quality 5.1 DVD from that era!

That about sums it all up, doesn't it !!

US '83 was VH's Woodstock..... and they showed their true roots.... they would just rather party, than "be" the party.

No Biggie, even Zeppelin fumbled some on their biggie, Knebworth in '79.

I'm not with you on this one at all. I always thought it fit perfectly after the guitar solo. Love every part of that song.

VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.
