Default Just a thought on the VH website controversy

I don't think this has been brought up before and perhaps this sheds some light on the website controversy regarding Mike's pictures being removed from the album covers.

On the day Van Halen relaunched their website, the picture representing Alex on the front page/splash screen was actually of a Drum Workshop drumset and not of a Ludwig set which is what he endorses. I found this kind of odd since it was unlikely that Alex had started endorsing DW since Ludwig has been running full page ads in Modern Drummer featuring Alex in the last couple of issues. However, the picture was changed by the next day.

This kind of gives me the impression that whoever worked on the site may have taken some liberties that the band members were not aware of including perhaps the exclusion of Mike on the album covers.

Alex has always played Ludwig drums and knowing how he is supposed to be more business savvy it seems unlikely that he would have approved a picture that depicted a different brand of drumset than what he endorses.

    Did anyone else notice this?

Idon't think the Mikey thing was by accident - the drum set pic - yes...I'll give ya that but the Mikey thing took a bit of effort on someone's part. No WAY do I think that one was by accident...

Mike wasn't "excluded" from the album art, he was purposely photoshopped out and replaced by Teen Wolf. Please tell me you see the difference.

Yes of course but by whom?
If eddie were down and out on a sidewalk playing guitar I'd be next to him with a bottle and a blanky braving the cold. I would be sucking my thumb happily making chupa chupa noises in sync with the petroglyphic sounds that came from the mighty finger tips of Edward Van Halen.

Now we also know why they didnít show up to the R&R Hall of Fame. Because Roth was in the band. They didnít want to face Mike.

I aint buyin' that either. MA was intentionally omitted and the backlash made them reconsider. Ed is my guitar god and always will be, but even "supposedly sober", he is a nasty, bitter, vindictive fuck !

I don't think it was malicious

I'm not sure the band have full visibility of everything of this nature. They've always struck me as a bunch of fun loving guys and maybe, just maybe, this was just meant to be a bit of fun. Kind of an initiation for Wolfy, make him feel more 'part of the band'. Y'know, he's surrounded by 3 hugely well known personalities and he's stepping into some BIG shoes so maybe this was a way to help him feel comfortable.

    Just my thoughts on this.....

No, that was because you can't have 2 VH singers on stage at the same time, and you especially can't have 2 VH bass players on stage at the same time.

This leads to the real reason for Wolfgang being in Van Halen now. You can no longer have 2 Van Halen's on stage at the same time either. Wolfgang pushes it to 3 Van Halen's which creates an odd-numbered majority. This makes sense to EVH.

Ultimately, there is now 3 Van Halen's, which makes the sides even in the eventual deathmatch that will occur between the 3 VH-named members, and the 3 non-VH-named members.

This throwdown will take place in front of 5150. Ed will shout "This is home!" to which Dave will reply "This is Mean Street!". Mayhem will ensue.

What's sad is that as we all know this, we keep buying into his shit. I personally don't know Eddie Van Halen and after being an indirect part of VH history, I can't say I really want to know the guy. He has single handedly managed to twist the foundation of VH into a even more dysfunctional state. Glad to see Dave back, but would have been all in if Mike were too.

Lol......Nice to see you're still holding on to that innocence of 1984, but.....huh?? "A bunch of fun loving guys" who cut Mike out of the album as a way to "just have a little fun"?

    Is that a serious take?

I think omitting Mike is the normal procedure.

When Sam first left VH, Ed did some redecorating by X-ing out Sam's face in some VH photos around his house.

When Dave quit VH in 1985, Ed said the new band was "the real Van Halen." Which was a symbollic way of X-ing Dave out.

I think it's funny. Immature and out-of-touch, but funny.

It's like when a wrestler gets fired by the WWE, and they never say a word of why the guy is suddenly gone. They just go on - like he was never there.
