    Default The Van Halen Brand

    What is it anymore?

Back in the day, Van Halen was synonymous with endless partying, a romp in the sack, good times with friends and raising hell... all with a big fat smile on your face. Van Halen made you feel GOOD, and everybody wanted a piece of that action.

That stuff worked back then because it was REAL. The band lived it and the fans soaked it up.

Now you've got some middle-aged guys who can still crank out the tunes, but their party days are way behind them, and they've got a kid in tow who's barely beyond watching the Suite Life of Zack & Cody.

Dave said that this will be a whole new band.

So what is Van Halen today? What are your thoughts?

Let's just say I need to order some Wrecking Balm.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

Q: who was the biggest douche that you have worked with?

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

Now the new David-Lee-Roth-Van Halen album, “Tokyo Dome In Concert,” is available for purchase, and it’s super, super, super, super, super, super, crazy bad. - Doug Elfman

Really well put. To sell in the long run and not just be a "cash grab", I think there has to be some authenticity to it.

Will DLR pull out the same old gags? Can they be relevant in the music world? Great questions.

Nope. They'll be talking about jumping, that crying bitch Jamie, joggin' with the Morningstar, covering the Kinks, a stripper, and what ain't love.

In deep cuts lies this tour's salvation.

Why the fuck is because our biases always scream out. I hated the Hagar version of the band (hate may be a strong word), but I was so ready to hear the band and looking for a real rock band to save the idea of arena rock that I drove to Greensboro to see it first....
All i'm sayin...Van Halen is gonna still rock..much better than Nickelcrack or the other 90,000 3 chord bands out there....bringin Wolfie in is smart because it can bridge the gap for them maybe..who the hell knows...i have a better chance of figuring out the Rubiks Cube than these guys...

The only way they become relevant again is with new music. It cracks me up that they 'started in October' to rehearsh 25 decades old songs that they've each played a million times (save Wolfie) but can't put together one new one for some reason.

Can't leave out the fact that Ed was nearly like the Iron Maiden mascot back then...
You gotta remember..Dave is back..this guy made stories about how they did this and that and always made shit up about what they were doing...they may have something nearly done for all we know...gawd i hope...i would much rather hear a new CD than a tour right now.

I agree with you, but can I play devil's advocate for a minute? Let me know what you think about this:

I think in order for VH to write some kickass music again, they need to be able to play the 6-pack well again, especially in Ed's case. Guitar-wise, the music is much more challenging to play and this will give us a good gauge of whether Ed can do it again or not. If he can, then I'll get excited about new music coming out.

So, new music-wise, if they aren't able to play the old shit, the new stuff is going to be weak.

    Thoughts?
