    Default 1991 - A year to remember!!!

    1991 -
The year VH returned with their first new album in 3 years
The year I Got my first VH Tatoo
The year I started collecting bootlegs on VH
The year I was on my pinnacle of being VH obsessed...

and the year I'll remember so well....

The year Wolfie was born. Who would of thought 16 years later he'd be in the band....officialy!!!!

I remember going to MusicVision, a local music store, to be F.U.C.K. at about 9:01am, right when it opened. I remember being pretty damn happy at first listen. No keyboards, more straightforward rock. I wasn't really digging Right Now then, and I really still don't today. I really think that's a great cd though. I also remember how the concert business was getting it's ass kicked that year and the mighty VH was still selling out every night. Great year.

I wasn't too happy with the music scene of 1991. I didn't really like FUCK that much, I didn't like ALAE that much either, and I wasn't too thrilled with grunge. I got to like some of the grunge era, but I still don't like FUCK or ALAE that much, they are both ok but nothing great in my book.

I was only 3 that year, how weird, but strangely enough I do remember my sister always listening to TOTW. Great song, great album in my book.

I always find it a bit odd how FUCK is not that popular around here. I remember thinking when the cd came out it was the return of the old school VH. Very in your face. It's still probably my favorite Van Hagar cd.

I've always loved the F.U.C.K. album. Its probably the Van (Hagar) Halen album I listen to the most. Just love the guitar sound and the thumpin bass. The almost complete abscence of keyboards. Sammy sounds great too.

I don't understand why so many people here dislike this album. I think its great.

best year ever for VH, better than or tied with 84..thy were everywhere and the simple fact of the matter is that no other 'hard rock" band was doing as well as they were. Grunge had started to creep in and VH was still kicking ass and taking names. FUCK is just a great record, probably one of the best pure hard rock cd's of the 90's, lots of songs on the radio, lots of video's on mtv, everything was good.

I agree Bad to the Bone. I think you sound alot like me. 1991 and 1993 are my fave VH Years. Lots of smiles all round and great days indeed. They were'nt just a great band to me, they were a "soundtrack" to my life. Everyday I just lived and breathed VH. Times have changed...........so much.

FUCK grew on me. It actually didn't make a good first impression. And I still consider it kind of an oddball for VH; there were TONS of guitar overdubs and not a lot of one-track guitar songs. ("Pleasure Dome," however, totally delivers in that department.) I thought Sammy sounded a little bored or uninterested in a few of the tunes--lyrically mostly. He still delivered good performances all around. It was also the introduction of Eddie's high gain sound, which he has stuck with for the most part since. I thought it lacked some expression at the time, but that too has grown on me. Hindsight has shown me that for any one thing I thought fell shy just a little on FUCK there was at least one notable improvement from previous records to make up for it. The album SOUNDS like they put a lot of work into it, and it was most certainly good that all of the tones were more rounded with low-end.

    1991, what a year, musically.
    ..
not only VH - F.U.C.K, which, if it really came to it, I would probably consider to be their best album ever...maybe..

but also (and please excuse the mention of bands that aren't VH here)

    Nirvana - Nevermind
    My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
    Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque
    Slint - Spiderland

a truly excellent time for guitar-based music, in general.

The production of the F.U.C.K. album is top-notch. But for some reason it's not my favorite Hagar-era CD (Balance). If you exclude III, this album contains the one VH song that I actually don't like...."In 'N' Out."

you know i always flip flop between FUCK and OU812 as my two fav albums. But OU812 is just more diverse and i think that is why i like it more.

But FUCK was a bigger album for them for sure.

and Top Of The World is amazing.

WOW!!! Really??? That tune is smokin' IMO. Why they dropped it from the set list after the first few dates is still a mystery to me.
