Default Do Posh Celebrity Rehabs Work?

I would really love to believe that a 30-day rehab stint worked for Eddie Van Halen. However, the odds of it really working are not in his favor. The majority of celebrities who have been through rehab have not been able to triumph over their adictions. This is a sad but true reality.

    Any surprises?

I am not posting this to slam Eddie or to minimize his chances of successfully breaking free of his addictions. I am just saying that for those of you who are banking on his rehab stint becoming a guarantee that the 2007 Van Halen tour will be a success might want to consider the facts. Rehab usually does not work.

I personally choose to remember Van Halen in better days. Eddie's contributions to the art of music will forever remain untarnished by his addictions in my mind. I guess I'm still lost In a Simple Rhyme.

Just as Rembrandt, Michelangelo, and Picasso had their masterpeices, here are a few of Eddie Van Halen's masterpieces:

    Unchained

    Little Guitars

    Hot For Teacher

    I'll Wait

    Eruption

    Mean Street

    Outta Love Again

    D.O.A

    Jamie's Cryin'

    Atomic Punk

In light of all of these masterpieces, who has time to remember Eddie's downfalls? Let's look at the big picture folks. This man was the inspiration for many of us to get into rock-n-roll.

Let's make this the "Remember Eddie's Musical Contributions" thread. Forget about his faults for a moment. What songs did he create that made you passionate about rock-n-roll?

As evidenced by recent celebs, those posh places don't work. Let's hope his rehab took though, all signs are pointing towards the positive with the new cleaned up look and all. Good luck Ed!!

    He looks pretty clean here:

Wolf looks like he has slimmed down. Eddie looks happier than he has in years. It's obvious that he is trying to make his life better. I guess only time will tell if the rehab worked. I certainly hope that it did.

The success or failure of a rehab treatment depends mostly on the individual seeking to get sober. If he/she takes the process seriously, is patient, is willing, and is focused, then in all likelihood he/she will be able to get clean. Our just-out-of-their teens celebs of the day (Lohan/Spears) seem to lack some adult decision-making abilities, thus they have been prone to failure. All accounts seem to indicate that Edward has stayed clean. And the drastic change in just his appearance since his rehab visit, I think, is evidence of his sincere desire to get and stay clean.

Getting sober certainly must be one of the hardest things to do, because it is a life-long battle. Though he has his work cut out for him, I hope Ed can stay clean and healthy.

I wish the same for Eddie. I hope this King is able to defeat his adversaries as other "Kings" have been unable to do.

Most celebrities that go to rehab go because they got in to trouble with the law and use it for a PR stunt. As far as I know EVH has not been in any legal trouble therefore his stay in rehab sounds to be genuine. I hope and pray for the man that he can conquer the demons that have held him down.

I would have never pick up a guitar if it was not for EVH the man has been an inspiration to me in a lot of ways, since the first time I heard him. I am not proud of all the things he has done, but I am not proud of all the things I have done ether. lol

What song influenced me the most all of them. Thanks for the music Mr. Van Halen

Rehabs will never work on their own. They are only good to get the person detoxed and, hopefully, get started at laying a foundation for recovery. As any recovering alcoholic/addict with any significant amount of sobriety will attest to, it is a never-ending fight that requires vigilence, work, and support. Too many people, celebrity or otherwise, view rehab as an event that will provide a cure. To paraphrase an over-used but truthful saying from AA, the only thing an alcoholic has to change is everything. By everything, they refer to perceptions, attitude, expectations, associates, etc. You can't change all that overnight, or even in a 28 day stay at Betty Fords.

However, there is always hope. An excellent example of a celebrity turning it around is Eric Clapton (Eddie's hero).

    Well

Hey - it worked pretty good for Keith Richards. I think Michael jackson went to the wrong type of rehab.

There is no proof that 30 day intense inpatient rehab works any better than outpatient rehab. That's why the insurance companies won't pay for it and that's why 99.9% of the 12 steppers no longer go to them. Things are different in Tinseltown.

One of the network news had an 'expose' on the rehab facilities and what the really do (as per what my wife told me). It seems that the one that Lindsey Lohan went to is more of an image rehab that dealing with the physical dependency. I didn't see it myself, but it wouldn't suprise me that there are some like that.

What I want to know is this the same clinic Eddie went to?

it doesn't cost money to get sober. it takes someone to be willing and to surrender to the fact that they have a problem and want to get better.

the only thing that works long term is to immerse yourself in the program and go day by day.

i have seen people who have 3 or 4 years sobriety and are walking timebombs because they are in relapse mode. and sooner or later, BOOM, they go backout. then you have people who are sober a few months who actually get it, they accept it, they're not in denial anymore, they work the program, they are happy, and they move on day by day.

unfortunately, less than 10% of addicts wil stay sober. and it's not from lack of money, too much money, or rehab structure, it's from lack of willingness, acceptance, and surrender

Well at least it seems that Eddie's rehab has produced better results than the Lohan and Spears. Granted cameras are not following Eddie around 24/7 but we have not heard any stories about 7-11's and stacking cigarette boxes on top of each other.
