    Default Evolution of Frankenstein

I've seen so many threads about the Frankenstein you would think I'd be tired of it, but the more I read the more interest it creates. I built a timeline of the guitar with the help of my friend Rob.

If anyone notices any errors let me know and I'll make the necessary changes.

Very cool and informative. The only thing I'd add would be his addition of the Floyd Rose in 1980 (?). I'm also pretty sure that the black headstock neck was used on the '79 tour.

don't know if the pic is still posted, but someone came up with a cool looking poster on these boards called "edvolution" with all the guitars on it... the lawyers got in the way, though...

i think my fav is still the hockey stick one. I had a cool GMW replica of that one, but it had this thick poly gloss finish which sucked, and the guitar just didn't play right. It felt strange, so I had to sell it.

this is just an informative timeline. i've seen the poster which is really cool, but selling it was the problem. i just put this in here for discussion purposes.

i like the kramer beak and the hockeystick. not sure which one i'm going to use when i rebuild mine. i'm not using the strat headstock because the fender suits might get upset if i build one better than them.

I don't know man... I guess to me it's just a guitar. I never really thought of it in terms of evolution. It's cool that you can make a living off building replica's of it, but I've never really understood the fascination with the "stripes".

With the exception of Ed's guitar, and maybe Rhoads' polka-dot Flying V, custom paint jobs on guitars just scream "80's cheese-metal" to my eyes.

I have a bunch of guitars, and they are all black, white, or sunburst - with the exception of a translucent purple Wolfgang Standard I got on clearance years ago...

I guess I'm just into boring looking guitars...!

I actually thought that picture you had of Ed playing the sunburst strat looked cooler than any of the striped guitars I've seen him play....

Frankenstein, a medical genius obsessed with the secret of creating life, who uses a bizarre cloning apparatus to grow a complete human being from his own cellular material. Though sensitive and intelligent, the rebellious humanoid is driven by a murderous rage against his creator, compelling him to destroy everything that he holds dear.

    Just one theory.

Well, I don't make any money making striped replica's; the most I'll do is give people the parts to make their own. I'll tell you... painting this guitar black or white and forgetting about the stripes is the way to go. Unless you're playing in a VH Tribute Band or something it's kind of silly to go in front of people and play a Def Lepperd tune on a VH Clone. I think a Vintage/Aged White VHI with a Tortoise Shell Pickguard is what I'll play in front of people.
It is fun to build the VH Clones; they make great conversation pieces and it feels good to rip an old VH tune on one every once in a while... but sell them?... naaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

I think the "Original" dates earlier than 1978...before he added the pin stripes with a rosewood neck.

I agreed, and was he not still using the Les Paul quite a bit during that time?

cmon dive , do some research , induldge me , lets have fun , imo opinion those pics are late 1978 tour , pre 1979 tour he had removed the pinstripe tape because he was going to paint the guitar red , theres no fender logo on the headstock , and he has the same single coil pickups in there that the franky had in there on the 1979 tour.

so i need to move the White Pickguard in between the Black Pickguard and Added Red?
I'm not claiming to be all knowing here. I was just doing what seemed logical to me.
