Will the casual fan give a @#$%??

I don't post very often but I thought I should put this up here. I ran across this today on "Useless Junk". I've been a faithfull follower of this band since 79' and I myself am looking forward to this tour. I'm sorry Mikey's not involved
but I wouldn't miss a chance to see them one more time for anything.

Actually, the 'casual fan' jumps back onto the bandwagon whenever "David Lee Roth" and "Van Halen" are uttered in the same sentence.

the casual fan WILL go to see the show!

It's a ROCK concert, they will go to see the band and listen to the music!

Throughout all the years of false hopes of Dave and Eddie sharing the stage together or just those who enjoyed the Van "Hagar" era. This tour will be very successful
Just the names VAN HALEN & DAVID LEE ROTH together draw interest from all those past and present fans.
IMO the "Dave Led" Van Halen had a more widespread fan base. In those days Van Halen affected more people with its energy than the Sammy years did. The Sammy years might have had more #1 albums, but no way came close to reaching the broad base of fans that CVH did.
All races loved CVH it seemed, not all people in every race, but the energy and party style of their music had a bigger impact on music in general.

This tour IMO will pack the arenas that they play in. There are die-hard fans, those who come to site like this that will not accept anything if its not the full deal. But the casual fan who grew up listening to Jump or even back further got laid in the back of a car listening to Feel Your Love Tonight will want to see this. Interest is there, pre-announcement press conference seeds are being plated a week ahead of time and this time the promotions dept. seems to be doing their job. I think they announcement will be done in a major attention getting way and that is Dave's way of doing things. They went all out for the MONSTERS OF ROCK press conference, this will equal that IMO.

I know I'll get slaughtered on here, but I could imagine the whole Wolfi-thing could draw even more attention to VH.
Disclaimer: I don't say it's the right thing to do though.
If they promote this Eddie-wunderkind on bass right, they could (maybe) reach more puplic interest than the "normal" reunion wouold have.

Plus, maybe Wolfy gets a few emos to listen to rock how its supposed to sound!

Well, there you have it. Look for the tour to collapse under a cloud of bancruptcy and recrimination, within a week of the first gig.

    Thank's a ton, Eddymon.

The casual fan will not spend $100-200 for a ticket, $25-65 in gas to get there, whatever on "feelgood", another $100-200 in memorabilia at the show, and then another $30 later on for the next "new and improved" box set of tunes we've heard on umpteen albums/CD's already. These are ALL "luxury items", and people simply aren't spending on them like they used to.... UNLESS it is something very important to them, that is......ie: hardcore fan.

Yep, "Important" and "casual" are two entirely different animals folks....and unfortunately, if this is not done correctly, much of the hardcore fan base won't be spending either.... So yeah, it is very "important" (hardcore) to do it right....for everyone involved....JMHO.

With proper promotion and visits to the right media outlets before the tickets go on sale, yes they will. If it's a half assed attempt at promotion like most VH stuff has been in recent years, then some people might not ever hear about it, much less know enough to care.

I think the "casual fan" could give a shit whether Mike is there or not. If they promote it right, this WILL sell out large venues. I think early reviews are going to be important, though. If Dave's voice sucks, then it may go downhill quickly.

We're talking about the fans that did go see CVH back in the day or that would like to see Van Halen live, but haven't really kept up with the band. Or people that go to tons of concerts (of different bands), but aren't huge Van Halen fans.

Agreed. It's all about promotion and doing the right TV/radio appearances to get some hype behind it.

The "casual fan" for the most part don't even know Mike's name, so him not being on the tour would probably effect the hardcore fans more than the casual fan anyway.
