Default Dear Eddie: Ultimate Set List Wish

Dear King Edward: Here's to the upcoming tour. Thanks from the bottom of my heart for making this happen.

Glad you are healthy and happy...thank God for sobriety. Stick with it.

And don't let Dave piss you off...remember, we all have friends like Dave. Just keep concentrating on the good things about him, and what this tour will do to make so many thousands of your fans SMILE!

Here is my dream set list, with explanations (in no particular order):

    1) Runnin With The Devil: The first song on the first album, this has to be played. No further explanations needed.

    2) Eruption: Now the controversy. Eddie, I love you, but here's my idea..just drop the guitar solo and do Eruption. This will allow you to add more songs to the show, and you HAVE to do Eruption anyway, might as well call that your solo. My suggestion is to eliminate all the solos from the show entirely. I know I will get flamed for this, but Ed, we've heard your solo every show we go to, and the casual fan like my wife doesn't really care about it. If you have to solo, do a lots of bits and pieces from the six pack.

    3) You Really Got Me: Now the first album will be heavily represented, but obviously this song is an absolute must. Too many fans know it and love it.

    4) Ice Cream Man: This is the perfect opportunity to let Dave his do his Dave-sickle thing.

    5) Dance the Night Away: Again, a no brainer. A big hit. Must play.

    6) Beautiful Girls: Again, almost essential. Too many people know and love this one, even those who like Schmit's Gay Beer (inside joke).

    7) Could This Be Magic?: My first controversial choice. Eddie, some of your fans were in their 30's when this album came out. That means they are nearing 70! now. Don't you think it's time for a little acoustic interval in the show? You ARE a great acoustic player. So many people are fond of this song, it would be a REAL treat.

    8) In A Simple Rhyme: My next controversial choice. This song is CLASSIC. What a beautiful song. Should have been a big hit when it came out, I think a lot of people will dig it.

    9) Mean Streets: Cmon, the intro alone is worth it.

    10) So This is Love?!?: Great, fun, concert song.

    11) Unchained: Duh!

    12) Where Have All The Good Times Gone?: Really one of my favs, here is the deal: the lyrics..they are too perfect. Might even be an opening song.

    13) Pretty Woman: Ok, I sold out for the non-die-hards. Too big a hit to ignore.

    14) Secrets: Again, perfect acoustically.

    15) Jump: To open or close the show?

    16) Panama: Likewise.

    17) Hot For Teacher: Really, really gonna be bummed if you don't play this. How can you not? This song SCREAMS Dave-era VH.

    18) Girl Gone Bad: Another lesser choice, I feel this song would really kick ass live.

    19) Me Wise Magic: Ok, throw us a bone. Something from after 1984

    20) Yankee Rose: If Sammy got his solo songs, Dave should get AT LEAST one, perhaps two. Always wanted to hear you play on this one, Eddie!

    21) Damn Good: One more acoustic and Dave solo tune (I Believe that's 3, too many?)...the lyrics= VH memories!

Well, that's it. Of course, I vote 30 songs, but know that 21 is about all you guys have in you for a kick ass show.

    Dear Edward:

Bring back Mikey and play all the tunes you guys never play anymore. Oh and tour worldwide so Angie can see you live and in person.

    Thank you.

I just don't want to feel cheated like i did in 2004 when they came to Tampa. I want to see a show that will kick so much ass that it makes up for '04. Eddie was fucking trashed and sounded like shit. I have seen VH over 20 times and that was the only time i left dissapointed. I am skeptical about this tour as well. I am not convinced that Eddie is sober, nor am i convinced that DLR has "it" anymore. I just hope EVH has his shit together. If he does, it could be magical.

I hate to padlock this since you obviously put a lot of work into the post, but we do have more than several other setlist threads bouncing around. Gonna close.
