    Blackmore's Rainbow

Yeah, I hear ya...the band turned into a corporate entity after Ronnie James Dio left... blah, blah, blah. Yet occasionally (perhaps 3-4 times per album) Ritchie Blackmore and his ever changing and highly unstable roster of musicians could set the sky on fire, and (sadly) in the process gave Yngwie Malmsteen closely followed instruction in stagecraft and fashion.

    So not in chronological order...

Rainbow : Kill The King (6:18)

    [B]Rainbow - I Surrender (3:24)

Rainbow Man On The Silver Mountain (6:01)

    "Death Alley Driver"...

This tune get's it's own post. Possibly the most scorching solo ever by Blackmore. "Creem" magazine at the time of review called the playing "pork-chops Bertinelli", in tribute to you know who.

The astute listener with also discover where Mr. Big got the idea for "Addicted To That Rush".

For whatver reason, always did enjoy all the incarnations of Rainbow a bit more than Deep Purple. Bonnet's got some lethal fuckin pipes....Lynn Turner has the haunting echoey voice, and Dio.....well shit - the man's DIO!

Lynch me for saying, I always prefered Blackmore's Night over both Rainbow and Deep Purple.

They almost banned me at Rotharmy for saying that though

I dunno, I'd probably say I preferred the singers in Rainbow to Deep Purple, but c'mon... DP had the stronger songs overall. My personal fave being "Black Knight".

Couldn't have said it better about Dio, though! How could anyone not be down with Dio?!

There is no "I" in "Team", but there are four in "Platitude-Quoting Idiot".

Nice thread, chef. Thanks for the vids.

I always liked Richie Blackmore. Haven't other musicians considered him difficult to work with? Maybe that has something to do with all the different lineups?

LL, you hit it on the head about the different singers. And, forgive me for saying, but I always liked Bonnet's strong vocals. I just didn't think they belonged in Rainbow. "All Night Long" is still a cool tune, though.

Hey, go over to the Non-music forum and check out the "French President berates US photographers" thread. Doesn't the guy kinda look like Graham Bonnet? I thought it was funny.

Great thread,,,I actually had Rainbow best of in my car cd on way to work this morning. Dont forget the late great Cozy Powell, what a fucking drummer. I never got to see this band or Richie live but Id take Rainbow with any singer over DP.I hear Richie was not the easiest to work with...remind you of someone else we all know and love. Too bad Richie will never rock again? Isnt that his wife in Blackmores Night...english folk band? She is smokin hot.

Call me crazy, but I'd bet Blackmore was a lot of inspiration for Nigel Tufnel.
