Hey!! Thanks for the link. I have always been an astronomy buff, since my dad is an amateur astronomer. I grew up going to "star parties" and astronomy conventions, such as Stellaphane.

I'm very much the amatuer myself. I did, in college, get to look through a large refractor telescope on campus, and the night we were viewing, I got to see a large Jupiter, with one of it's moon traversing in front of the big planet, while it cast it's small shadow. That..... was amazing !

Awesome. This is the coolest stuff!

My bro in law has a huge digital telescope (long story). I SAW SATURN!!! FOR REAL! THE RINGS AND ALL!! Just amazing when you get to put that stuff into perspective. Jupiter too. Wowzers!

I can stare at hubble sites all day and never get bored. Blows me away.

That is a great site!! For the amateurs out there you might want to check this one out. http://www.stellarium.org/ You can download the program and get an unbelievably accurate view of what the sky looks like from your geographic location. There are too many features to list...I end up spending hours looking at this thing. You can click on stars and it tells you what they are etc. The web has a lot of garbage on it (porn excluded) but there is also an amazing wealth of interesting things.

Thanks Rover! I missed your post until today when this thread refreshed. Gonna spend some time looking at this guys site. Fantastic!

Yeah Wahoo, I was looking at those new hubble images last night too. Been waiting for some new pics since the big upgrade and we're finally getting some. Great stuff!

Jetguy, I've had that stellarium tool on my desktop for a while now too. COOL!

This gives us a pretty good idea of how the images are generated.
