WHEN (I placed When in uppercase purposely) Van Halen gets elected into the Hall of Fame. The original members are in automatically obviously because it's based on their first record.

What about Hagar? I believe the band has to vote him in. He does not automatically get in. I'm pretty sure but not positive.

The Eagles were inducted with Tim Schmidt and Randy Meisner, so I'd say VH would go in with both Sammy and Dave.
Sammy was in the band longer than Dave was, so I'd say it's a no-brainer.
I'm sure plenty of bands were inducted with members that weren't in the band for the first records.
It probably won't be an issue at all.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

Dave was in the band from its conception. He was in the band since mid 1974 if I am not mistaken, that gives him 12 years and Sammy was from 1986-1996.

Anyway, both should and DESERVE to be there that night. They both kept that band in the spotlight during their tenures.

Sam will be there, and he deserves to be there, no matter what you think of him. He contributed to 11 years of success, no matter if you like him or not, the band succeeded with him.

</font>
given they only count eligibility from the first album, wouldn't that be the same for how long people are considered to be in the band?

i think they should both be able to go though!

Sam and Dave will both be in with them. It's more interesting to wonder about who'll show up, and if Gary will be there.

as Lance Watts would say
AT THE CEREMONY
"Alex: were's Barry?"

I only hope we see VH before this award.

I never said whether he deserves it or not. I was merely asking a question since he's not an original member of the band.

Didn't the Stones have to vote in Mick Taylor and Ron Wood?

If I remember correctly The East Street Band wasn't enshrined with Springsteen. Though I do not know the details. Same with the Stones example above, in all honesty I do not know all the details.

The Yardbirds went in on the first vote and didn't keep a steady line up -
Clapton 64
Beck 65-66
Beck/Page 67
Page 67-68

All survivng members were there to accept the award

So hell, Gary should be there too.

Actually, DLR was in the band from 1974-1985, while Sammy was in the band from 1985-1996, which means they were both with VH for 11 years. Unless you count the couple of months in 1996 that DLR was sort of in the band again.
