Default Can Someone Bottom Line The Michael Anthony/Van Halen Brothers Falling Out?

I'm new to the board and can't fathom a reunion without all the original guys. Can someone please bottom line the falling out for me. I read that the brothers didn't want Anthony on Van Hale III or the Sammy reunion tour either. Please fill me in on the basics.

    Thanks in advance

Seems to have started with Ed around 1981 and then I'd guess 2002 followed up in November 2004.

I notice VT lurking quite a bit but not posting anything, maybe he can shed a better light on this question.
Has he been told not to post anything else or does he just not know anything else. I just don't know why this band thinks that everything has to be so secretive.

Ed heard that Mike was talking smack about the brothers behind the Tastee Freeze on summer night in 99. Mike was actually talking smack about somebody else, and discussed this with Ed. Everything was fine, but then Ed and Mike were drunk once and started fighting about toothpaste, when Ed brought up the Tastee Freeze incident. It was all downhill at that point.
    Right here I say....

I'll bottom line it. Eddie is a bitter, resentful, old fuck who hates it that Michael has played with Sammy on the side and spoke the truth about his drinking on the last tour so now he is out of VH.

I'd say that truly nobody really knows except those involved. It seems to be the knee-jerk reaction around here (for some) to say it's Eddie's fault. For all we know, behind the scenes it could've been Mike that was a "tool". You wont find answers here bro...just a decent amount of finger pointing.

Ed is responsible for the entire trainwreck.
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

    Here's my take:

It must have really started around the 95 tour when Hagar and Mike began hanging out all the time (non-smokers). By this time, the brothers were pissy about Hagar taking off with Cabo Wabo and the circumstances involving his buyout of their part of the restaurant in Cabo San Lucas. When Hagar and EVH had it out in April 1996 and Hagar left/was fired, I suppose EVH took on full-on, total control of the band (especially with manager Ed Leffler being gone) and he and AVH worked up songs on their own at 5150 with EVH playing bass on the recordings (BOVI and III).

I'm guessing EVH wasn't totally freaked with Mike at this point, but Mikey's supposedly not contacting EVH when he was going through his cancer deal in 2000-02 and touring with Hagar in 2002 most likely was it.

Did Mikey do anything specific? Probably not. Just wasn't "loyal" enough to EVH and AVH during their dark period earlier this century and remained too close to Hagar, who they most likely despise again after the 2004 tour for the comments Hagar made right after the tour. And Mikey's airing of the dirt after the tour didn't help, either.

    Am I missing something?

I'm pretty sure Mike finally got sick and tired of waiting around while Ed was taking Tuba lessons....and this finally pissed off Ed who ran home with his 10 albums worth of material.
