    Default X-files 2 movie.

The sequel is out there, and it may be closer than you think.

"X-Files" fans may finally be getting their wish to see Agents Mulder and Scully reunite on screen — the big screen, that is.

The long-rumored sequel to 1998's "X-Files" feature film may soon be starting production, according to the Hollywood Reporter. David Duchovny, who played truth-seeking Agent Fox Mulder on the hit FOX series (and in the feature film), said Saturday during the Television Critics Association press tour that the long-delayed film may finally be coming to fruition — with co-star Gillian Anderson "on board" to reprise her role as skeptic-turned "believer," Agent Dana Scully.

"I'm supposed to see a script next week," said Duchovny, adding that "X-Files" creator Chris Carter and series executive producer Frank Spotnitz wrote the screenplay.

Carter reportedly had been one of the factors behind the delays in making the sequel, due to a now-settled lawsuit he filed in 2005 against 20th Century Fox Television. The lawsuit reportedly cited breach of contract, contractual interference and other claims over payments allegedly owed to him from the television series. The film's story reportedly will avoid the steep (and oftentimes confusing) "alien conspiracy" mythology developed throughout the series' nine-season run and in the first film, and will instead focus on a self-contained threat for Mulder and Scully to contend with.

"No, we're not going into the mythology (in the sequel)," Spotnitz told SciFi.com in May of last year. "One of the things that was exciting about doing it is to not make it a mythology story, and it's like one of the stand-alone episodes. It's a bit scary. Of course, we will catch up with the characters and what is going on in their lives, but it's not about the alien conspiracy. It's not about that." While Duchovny indicated that production could start as soon as this fall, a formal announcement has not yet been made.

Duchovny's new Showtime comedy series, "Californication," will debut August 13. Anderson was recently seen in "The Last King of Scotland" and the UK thriller film, "Straightheads."

That's a pretty good news although I was more a fan of the series rather than the movie. The serie could've last a lot longer imo without the actors' departure and whatnot, they killed it, it's a shame.

One of the few tv series I religiously watched from start to finish.

I will say though it started tanking around season 7 and when Duchovney was out most of the last couple seasons, the show just lost me, especially with the ever-more confusing "mythology" bullshit that went from alien invasions to super soldiers and other junk. Chris Carter pretty much lost the plot and I wonder if this new movie will be able to capture the magic of the best episodes of the first 3 seasons.

BTW, Anderson looks a lot different these days, I almost didn't realize it was her in the excellent "King Of Scotland."

Good call for them to make the second movie like one of the "stand alone" episodes...

David Duchovny Says 'X-Files 2' Will Start Shooting This December
    Sep 25th 2007

Well, here we go again; talk of another X-Files film seemed to be the movie gossip that refused to die this summer. But for the faithful, it's all finally coming together. Movieweb recently interviewed David Duchovny about the release of the DVD for The TV Set (Jake Kasdan) when the actor decided to drop a little bomb. Duchovny told Movieweb, "the script [for X-Files 2] is written and as far as I know we're all trying to shoot in December at some point." Sure, there had been some vague promises before, but this latest announcement is the first time anyone has heard of a start date for the production. News of the sequel began to heat up when Agent Scully herself, Gillian Anderson, had discussed the possibility on her personal web site back in May. The last time Duchovny had commented on the film was back in July, but he had remained relatively tight-lipped on many of the details involved.

Duchovny has just finished work on Vincent Perez's film, The Secret, and Gillian Anderson will soon begin shooting How To Lose Friends and Alienate People. After that, both stars will have two big empty spots in their schedules, just in time for December. Duchovny requested that fans try and contain themselves and, "keep it a secret and just give everybody a fresh experience of not knowing what the movie's about" -- staying true to form, there was not much he could add beyond confirming that yes, the script is complete and they are ready and willing to start production. Even though it is not exactly the most detailed information, when it comes to X-Files, I think most fans will take what they can get.

The show was cool, but it went downhill after the movie. Some of the mystique was gone.

So where does it pick up from? Mulder and Scully in a hotel, embracing? Or does it somehow evade the logic of time and find them in the mid-nineties, still at work for the FBI? Does Robert Patrick suddenly lose weight and gain hair, leaving "The Unit" (where he has been promoted into the Army somehow) to return as John Doggett? Does A.D. Skinner quit his part time job hosting shows like "When Animals Attack Magicians"? And does Kirsh give up his tenure as a doctor on "Gray's Anatomy"?

    The X-Files 2 Starts Shooting December 10
    Source: Diva October 29, 2007

After years of David Duchovny talking about the sequel, and almost 10 years after the first feature, 20th Century is finally ready to start production on The X-Files 2 with the actor in place to reprise his role of Special Agent Fox Mulder. Gillian Anderson is also expected to be back on board to play Special Agent Dana Scully.

Shooting is scheduled to begin on December 10 in Vancouver under the direction of series creator Chris Carter. Carter and Frank Spotnitz wrote the script.

The studio is referring to the film in casting breakdowns as "Done One."

The popular series ran on Fox from 1993 to 2002. Rob Bowman directed the first feature, which hit theaters on June 19, 1998.

I wish they would deal with the Alien stuff. That was always more entertaining than their famous "let down" endings. There has never been a more frustrating show in the history of television.

I dunno. After the so-so way the show ended, I cant say I miss Sculder and Mully.

I wish Chris Carter would make a Millennium flick. That show was far superior to the final seasons of X-Files.

I'm surprised they are doing another X-Files movie. It's been some time since the show ended that I wonder if they can get the magic back. Regardless, my wife and I will be there to see it.
