    Default NEW CD IDEA!!!!

If the tour is true and goes ahead. VH should give us something new aswell, not so much an album or "Best of", just a souvineer type thing to coincide with the tour.
I'm thinking an album with 2 new songs, a re-working of "Runnin with the devil" and 15 Dave Classics and not in order retrospectively. I'd be doing what Motley Crue did with their "Greatest hits" back in 98/99.
.........And dont call it the "Best of 1978/1984".

I'd call it "On fire - The Dave Years" and put a sticker on the front promoting the new tour and 2 new songs.

    1. New song
    2. New song
    3. Runnin' with the Devil '07
    4. You Really Got me
    5. Panama
    6. Unchained
    7. Jump
    8. Aint talkin' bout love
    9. Women in love
    10. Hot for teacher
    11. Meanstreet
    12. Romeo Delight
    13. I'll wait
    14. Dance the night away
    15. Secrets
    16. Jamies Cryin'
    17. Everybody wants some
    18. On fire
What is understood need not be discussed

"Dont disturb my paradise. I've asked you once. I've asked you nice" - "SERIOUS JU JU"

"I am in a blissful state. Dont bug me!!!" - Richard Dreyfuss "The Goodbye girl" 1977

How about 16 new songs. Then I wouldn't give a shit if they threw 2 concert songs in at the end.

Can't I just burn myself my own?

And as far as this RWTD '07, that clip is from the late 70's.
One noticeable difference between Judas Priest and Metallica...
...Judas Priest only has one gay guy in the band.

Good idea - I'd buy it.

I doubt EVH will ever make a full-length studio album - with a singer - ever again. I think he'll end up doing an instrumental something or other, but I can't picture EVH and DLR or Sammy hanging in the studio for a year. So I'd be more than okay with a new "Best Of" with 2-3 new tunes.

    no no no no....

No one needs another "Best of"

If they can't put together 10 new tracks, then just release the 2 new ones on iTunes or something. I refuse to buy "Jump" again.

Why does this have to take a year? Honestly...the albums we love the most were recorded in days or weeks...why does everything need to be so overthought? IF (this is a big IF) VH really wants to give us something great, don't spend a year making it shiny...spend a month (at most) shacked up with Rubin or Templeman or someone that can actually produce and then release the damn thing...warts and all.

The only way I'd buy any sort of new "Best Of" is if they are newly recorded versions with the current lineup or live versions. I've suggested in other threads that they should just release the songs from the one day rehearsal with Roth and Wolfgang at 5150 back in November '06 that some people got a cdr copy of such as Ross Halfin. Although I'd be willing to bet those sessions aren't as "mind blowing" as Halfin claimed in his blog as this was when Eddie was at his most wasted and reportedly, Wolfgang kept letting Ed use his iPod to remember parts of songs during the session.

    New tunes.

No more rehashing of old material.

    That ship has sailed.

VH recorded its first 4-5 albums in quick fashion (2-4 weeks) because most of that material was already written during their club days. And WB had them on a short leash.

Well, supposedly there's a bunch of shit sitting in the vaults...it's not like they'd have to start from scratch.

The bigger problem is the short leash...That's why they need a producer, not an Ed. They need someone who'd push them to break through all the "gotta make it perfect" mentality, so that there might be some magic captured.

Don't want this to turn into a Sam v Dave thing...but this is the biggest difference for me...Sammy's CDs are better musically, but all that polish stripped away some of the fun (like "CTBM" or "Bottom's Up"
    I like Van Halen.

I don't think Ed has any desire to rehash songs he wrote when he was 18 years old, now in 2007. I'll bet anything he pretty much starts with ideas that he is currently coming up with, not something from 1975.

Plus as cool as some of those unreleased songs are, they're very-dated sounding riffs.

Just release them as unreleased tunes as is, no need to try to re-make them.

I'm not talking about the stuff from '75...surely Ed & Co. have sketched out some tunes since then?! (But I agree that that stuff should be released!!!)

Even some of the III leftovers could be reworked into Roth tunes...TWILY has the talkytalky feel of a Roth possibility.
    I like Van Halen.
