    Default Blown away by Frankenstein

I just played the $25k Frankenstein at a guitar shop in Oklahoma City. What an experience! I work with and around guitars day in and day out, and have for most all of my adult life. It is a very rare thing indeed for me to come across a guitar that very literally makes me week in the knees (no lie!), but this is exactly what happened. This thing honestly made my head spin. I felt like I was holding The Shroud of Turin (or maybe an authorized re-pro?). What an incredible stick. Thanks to the guys at Oklahoma Vintage Guitar/ Best Price Guitar for letting me play the holy grail and for giving me a great deal on the Tom Anderson. I'll be back. Now the important question...25k for an authorized re-pro? Probably worth the money in the long run. Any feedback?

feedback on the $25 grand? I won't go there as I can't imagine spending that kind of dough on something practical right now let alone on a luxury item like that.

But, good for you that you got the chance to play it. From the sounds of it that was a religious experience .

    Rock on!!

I'm not saying that the guitar is not worth 25k to you or anybody else...I just would not go into it assuming it's going to be a great investment.

If you think about it there are very few current production instruments that will turn out to be a decent investment. There are two reasons I feel the new frankenstein is an iffy "investment"...one, Edward never played it, signed it, or touched it....two...there are three hundred of them.

The Jimmy Page standard (now worth over 100k, sold for 50k, was played by Jimmy, serialized by Jimmy, and only 25 were made. An argument can also be made about the overall sentiment towards Page versus EVH.

In the end it's a crapshoot...if I had $25k that I could spend without worrying about its future value, I'd be very tempted myself.

Best of luck with your decision, and let us know how it turns out. Meantime, congratulations on playing the guitar...very few of us have had the opportunity!!

i agree with the above post. Ed should have gone on tour before releasing these played each one for a couple songs, signed it at the end, photo, blah blah blah...then its perhaps worth that price tag. Didn't he sort of do that on the 2004 tour with his charvel guitars?

I just want some new music and live performances with any singer. That will make me happy.

The guitar was......well....neat......but not 25k worth of neat.

I agree with that. I p[layed one too here in Houston and it plays great, but so do all my others. The amp is pretty hot.

How do you find the neck as compared to the Ernie Ball? The Ernie Ball was suppose to be a computer copy of that neck I believe.

I played the 25K frankie at GC in dallas, tx (hwy 635) a week ago. The guitar is amazing! I was impressed on how incredible the guitar sounds. It is the holy grail of guitars, made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. The neck does feel like the EB.

But I would never cough up that kinda cash for a guitar, unless I won the lottery. I am not a big fan of the relic'd guitars, if I'm gonna pay that kinda cash I want a guitar that looks new, not 30 years old.

To me the neck felt bigger than the EBMM and Wolfgang. The frets are certainly bigger as well.

That's because this is the first company that Ed's worked with that "gets it". Never mind what he's said about Peavey, EBMM, Kramer, etc. This time it's true..no, really....

The frets are waaaay taller than the Axis frets. They're the same height as the Wolfgang's frets (Dunlop 6105s.....NOT the Warmoth variety), but much wider. I *thought* they were quoted as being Dunlop 6100s.

    So:
    EVMM: short, narrow
    Wolfgang: tall, narrow
    Frankie: tall, wide

** if I haven't made this clear already, NEVER reference the Warmoth fret chart. Their "6105" isn't the same as a Dunlop 6105. Dunlop invented the 6105, so it's just Warmoth's take on the Dunlop 6105, which is taller than Warmoth's.

I am still dying to try one. I am hearing the neck comes a bit dirty and has somewhat of a sticky feel to it, or a used feel?
