Yup, here it is: (To Quote Homer Simpson) "The wild, shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner! The bong-rattling bass of Mel Shocker! The competent drumwork of Don Brewer!" ...

I've seen them 5 times since 2001, because I'm a big Bruce Kulick fan. Met the band several times. Gonna see them next month too...

    Reissue Alert

When I was 16, in 1972, Mark,Don & Mel was one of my prime listening albums for Hard Rock music. (Others were Alice Cooper's KILLER, Deep Purple's MACHINE HEAD, and various Led Zep albums).

For the first time ever, this Grand Funk double album collection is being released on CD.

I ordered my copy today. Amazon gives the release date of Dec. 27, 2011.

Some advance copies have come out, and the reports of the audio fidelity are glowing. The reissue is being done by Iconoclassic Records

Grand Funk Railroad is a really good band. Solid songwriting, showmanship, and musicianship. It's a shame they're not talked about much amongst my generation.

Man, I remember being about 3 or 4 and listening to the Red Album on the record player. That was some great stuff right there! "Got This Thing On The Move", "Please Don't Worry"...a couple of jams that kinda shaped rock and roll for me.

It's because their manager back in those days alienated everyone in the industry.

    Newly Re-Mastered 2-CD Compilation from 1971

Mark, Don & Mel 1969 -1971, the 2-CD newly remastered set, and recently released is On Sale (Until May 25th) for just $10.83 !

    http://www.importcds.com/Music/23818...Mel-1969-71-CD

    Product Notes

Digitally remastered edition of this best-selling collection of tracks from the American rockers. Following the enormous success of the first six Grand Funk Railroad albums, Capitol Records decided that it was time for a summary of the first stage of the band's career and a two-LP Best Of was assembled. The next studio album, Phoenix, would feature keyboardist Craig Frost, who would eventually become the fourth member of the band so this release is comprised of the power trio era hits. Mark, Don & Mel features the classic tracks "Time Machine", "Heartbreaker" and "Paranoid", which received heavy FM and AM radio play back in the day. The album also includes the band's first truly huge Top 5 single, "Footstompin' Music". The closing track is the epic full-length version of "Closer to Home/I'm Your Captain". This release marks the first worldwide legitimate appearance on compact disc and features a new mastering done especially for this release by Grammy Award winning engineer, Vic Anesini. Iconoclassic.

    1. 1 Time Machine 1. 2 Into The Sun 1. 3 Heartbreaker 1. 4 Feelin' Alright

Next to last show on Season 14 on April 25 - That Metal Show

Season 14 of VH1 Classic’s That Metal Show rolls on this weekend with the return of Ace Frehley. The former KISS guitarist has been on the show before, but this will be the first appearance by former Grand Funk Railroad vocalist/guitarist Mark Farner. The guest musician is Alice Cooper guitarist Nita Strauss.

Frehley talks about KISS’ induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, being onstage with his former bandmates and his frustration that the original KISS lineup did not perform at the ceremony.
Farner reminisces about the early days of Grand Funk Railroad, including a time the band had the opportunity to open for Led Zeppelin and how blown away he was by their performance.

In addition to displaying her guitar skills as the episode’s guest musician, Strauss discusses being discovered while playing the national anthem at an L.A. Kiss football game and her upcoming solo album.
This week’s “Rank” segment finds Frehley ranking the KISS albums he performed on. In the “Throwdown,” the debut Led Zeppelin album goes up against the debut Black Sabbath album. “Take It Or Leave It” returns, as the hosts give their opinions on the recent announcement of the retirement of Twisted Sister.

This week’s episode of That Metal Show debuts Saturday, April 4 at 9PM ET/PT on VH1 Classic, with a repeat at 11PM ET/PT.
