    "Monsters of Bust Tour"

"Monsters of Rock" did not do as well as I thought.

We're talking about 19 years ago, but I was at the Monsters of Rock in Minneapolis at the Metrodome. I know that stadium VERY well at this point--been to a LOT of Twins and Vikings games there over the years. It seats about 68,000 in football conversion mode, which is what it was for the concert. My guess would be there were, at most, about 40,000 people there. (And it was only $27.50 per ticket including all fees! That was an expensive concert back then!)

it did fine for what it was and the time period. It wasn't built up over time like ozzfest is now, it wasn't a traveling festival show, it was just one long ass concert. It didn't set the world on fire but it did fine.

I read about this years ago. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Van Halen and the Scorpions were huge back then. Dokken was at the height of their popularity, and Metallica were just on the verge of superstardom. What kept people away from this concert? I still say it was the best concert I have ever seen.

If they would have done it on the F.U.C.K tour it would have been huge. OU812 didn't put out the hits. The two keyboard hits they had didn't really get big until this tour was over. Black N Blue wasn't that big of a tune.

I went to the Akron Show... maybe 1/3 of the place was full.

Metallica and VH did kick ass though.

I think the tour sold a decent amount of tickets. The Silverdome show I went to was full. It was a grandoise idea that was destined not to make a lot of money. Travel, egos, production costs, 5 bands, 9 hours and $25.00 per ticket? They likely would have had to get 2 million fans to profit. The promotors and bean counters were the ones complaining-not the fans. I sure as hell got my $25.00 worth. Could you imagine what that tour would cost today and what the ticket price would be?

It is truly difficult to put to words the utter disappointment one feels after clicking on this thread in anticipation of boobage.

    I blame Kindom Come...

Caught the show at Giants Stadium. We had seats, but we - and just about everyone else - jumped over the walls (about a 12-foot drop) and onto the field when VH came on. There weren't enough security guards to stops everyone, so they just let us go.

When it got dark, people broke into the skyboxes and lit them on fire. It was like Soddum and Gammorah, with chicks taking off their tops, the stadium on fire and VH playing during all of the crazyness! Great show.
