Default First sighting of the Fender Wolfgang?

Hey guys I got my new guitar world in the mail today with Eddie on the cover and inside where it is the double page spread of him, in the background there is a guitar that definitely is not the frankie replica. It has an arched top, maple neck and two white knobs...if anyone else has seen it, they know what Im talking about...I dont have scanner capabilities sorry...I just thought I'd throw it out there...btw I really want that amp...

I, of course, am quite curious about the next generation EVH Wolfgang. My GW subscription may have run out, though, so if those pictures are out there I wouldn't mind seeing them.

EVH owned the design rights on most of the Wolfgang. The pickups will be different, of course, and it was rumored a couple of years ago that the headstock would be different (though it's my understanding that EVH holds the patent on the top bevel thing). We shall see...

the body shape is pretty similar including the headstock to my eye...here is why I think it might be different. The top looks like its more of a solid, the knobs are white(not the wolfgang black), and the neck looks like normal maple(the type found on fender guitars), not the birdseye maple so often found on Ed's guitars, also here is a dead give away to me that its new...the side of the guitar isnt gutted for Ed's cable setup of recent years, also the floyd rose doesnt look like a peavey floyd, it looks like a real floyd...I really think that it is the new Wolfgang, does anyone have guitar world, its the guitar sitting on the top of the white cabinet next to the open back cabinet...

I checked my mailbox when I first read your thread. No GW today. I may have let my subscription lapse. (Bad timing, eh?) I wanna see the damn thing. I could probably tell you right away if it's a Peavey or not.

I'm skeptical about the new Wolfgang--skeptical about it being made in Mexico but more so because it'll probably be $2,000-plus. But I am indeed very curious, though.

Time for a dumb Wolfgang story (inspired by the mention of a purple Wolf)...

My first Wolf was a Patent Pending ivory Special, bought in June '98. I didn't know how much I didn't like my previous guitars (a Strat and Ibanez) until I played and owned the Wolfgang. To date I have yet to play a guitar that measures up in feel and tone. Perhaps some day it will happen. When and what that will be, I don't know.

The trans purple Wolfgang Standard made me drool way back then when I'd check out the Peavey website, and I wanted to for sure make it my second Wolf (at that point I thought I'd only ever buy two ). "Purple Wolfgang" was on my mind for years, but simultaneously during those years I was also working a lot to get myself out of debt. So expensive guitar purchases were sadly not in the books. Fast forward to 2004: I'm out of debt, have tons of guitar students, paying very little for rent, and getting loads of playing jobs and studio work. I get wind from a rep in about May that EVH is planning to leave Peavey, so I turn to eBay and grab a trans green flame top Special and later a gloss black Standard. At the time, purple Standards and my other new favorite Wolfgang color, dark cherryburst, were going for ridiculous money (as much as $2,000) on eBay, so I tried to order one new but Peavey kept missing delivery to the dealer (over a period of two months and fast approaching the end of production). A super-cool guy in North Carolina found me on the Peavey forums and offered to sell the one he'd just bought new. It was a 2003 dark cherryburst Standard, and that Wolf has since turned into my #1 player (most certainly a "cut above the rest"--the best Wolf I've ever played). I claimed I was done buying them; it was ridiculous, of course, to own so many of the same guitar. I continued my eBay trolls, however, and when I found a trans purple Standard for a buy-it-now of $1,200 (way less than what they'd been going for at the time), I snatched it up. Well the pictures on eBay were pretty bad, so when the thing showed up it looked as though the top had faded, and the flame was just not good at all; in my opinion it should have been a rejected top and been painted gold or seafoam (as rejected tops were). Moreover, the neck had all kinds of fretting out issues. So the thing was ugly--not at all the purple Wolf I'd wanted for so long--and not very playable. Over the next year I put a lot of work into it, and I can thankfully say now that it is a top-notch player. It's still damn ugly, though, and I nicknamed it The Fat Kid.

For the first custom Wolf I made I used a gloss purple Special body.

Last December I bought a trans purple Special flame top from Chris' Guitars in New York. It was supposed to be the "make up for The Fat Kid's shitty top" guitar. Guess what? I still want a Standard with a good... make that a great purple flame top. I'm fucking ridiculous.

So, yeah, I've got a purple Wolfgang--three in fact. And I'll likely part with one or two of them if I ever can find the "right" trans purple Standard.

I've also got a trans red Standard and a trans red Special. Both I reassembled from parts after finding the bodies on eBay.

I'm tired tonight, folks. Hence the long, rambling post (if y'all are even still reading).

That was a prototype built by Line 6 (or so all the evidence strongly suggested).

what evidence? I just saw a pic of Ed holding it up to the camera. it looked small. If there was evidence I dont remember seeing it in the pic. must be something I missed.

It had an odd face plate coming up and covering the upper horn, from the angle looking just like that of a Variax-style. Some of the detectives on the site used the background in the Window (and Line 6 logo on one of the buildings) to actually pinpoint exactly where Ed was. The odd faceplate and switch + "different" Wolfie (one pickup, thick maple top, cut out headstock) + Ed's location all pointed to it being a Line 6 prototype.

Plus, if there were already completed Fender/EVH protoypes when that picture was taken, why wasn't Ed playing them in either of the porn flick videos or his backyard house party? He was still playing his Peaveys on both.
