Default Van Halen brothers should just...

... find a good rock band that has recently broken up (where are you Chris Cornell?), hire their singer and bass player and form a super group! Come up with a new name...That seems to be in style these days...

that was just my thought for the day... I'd rather see them all get back together, of course, but just throwing that out there... I'd rather see that than N O T H I N G...

I'm actually posting to ask those VH fans who remember and know what happened to the Van Halen magazine that was out, um, 10-years ago...?? The Insider, or something like that... Was that a regular, existing, new-publications-being-released magazine because the band had more of a current status? What's the story on it ending?

Just wondering... I miss those magazines!

The magazine was 'The Inside' & yes it was great, as you said. After Sam left/fired there was really nothing to report other than the III disaster & I believe that's when they stopped circulation.

If things can't work with Dave, a new band with Cornell would be cool, but it's got to be a new band. If Van Halen continues, it's either Sam or Dave.

Cornell can't do an entire tour anymore because of his voice. He still does do entire tours (at least he did when he was still in Audioslave) but he really shouldn't.

Anyone that bought that live Audioslave DVD knows what I'm talking about.

To add to this thread, I wouldn't mind seeing Shinedown break up. Their singer could front a Van Halen brother's project. Fuck it, get Roger Glover to play bass (good background vocals) and add some old style keys, maybe Greg Rolie. Now there is a band that might make a good song, and NOBODY will expect anything out of them concerning album sales!

Heard about it. That bad huh? It's a shame because Cornell is one of my favs.

I dunno. He's currently doing a tour right now where he's playing a 2 1/2 set with about 25 songs from his entire career. Sure he has off and on nights just like most singers. Just about every highly regarded rock singer has had some awful performances either bootlegged or officially released at some point.

That's interesting because I saw a live video of one of their (Audioslave) songs from their last album and I thought he sounded horrible. I just figured it was either an off night or just the recording of it.

    It's not good.

My wife loves Cornell, and we both had seen him live with Soundgarden back in the old days, so that's how we remembered him.

She was as shocked as me after watching the DVD.

It's not completely terrible, he does have moments where he sounds kinda like his old self. But his performance is all over the map and some of the quieter points he's REALLY way out of tune. I guess it was a problem during the entire tour.

    Cuba DVD clip:

1990 Hands All Over clip (I love this song, voice is kinda choppy but you can tell the power was there):

1992 Soundgarden (Chris in his absolute prime, though the band is playing kinda shitty):

Lord I miss the early to mid 90's.

    Default Kinda off topic

But Cornell sounds great now. Check out the more recent clips.

Cornell had just quit smoking when the Cuba DVD was filmed. Yeah his voice was kinda fucked. They had not been on tour, as a matter of fact the "Out of Exile" album had not even been released yet.

If you check more recent footage, his voice his in stellar shape for being in his 40's and the amount of abuse it took over the years. Much better than that DVD.

Cornel is on record as stating, he really can't get along with others. Imagine, him trying to get along with the brothers who are also not able to get along with others....maybe they could create some great music. I wouldn't mind seeing a CC project featuring EVH.

    Default Cornell

I love Cornell and I'd love to see a collaboration. But he doesn't belong in the band, I don't think.

As far as his voice goes, he does a vocal "trick" in the high parts, kinda squeezes his throat to get that signature sound. You just can't do that at that volume and that pitch and nail it every time. He actually sounds better now to me than before. Less screaming and more singing.

I've seen good and bad. Sometimes he's off key. Sometimes the scream doesn't work. But when he's on, it's sublime. Check out his "live" performance of "No Such Thing" on the Henry Rollins show; it's on YouTube. He nails that.

What in the hell makes anyone think he'd ever join Van Halen, though?

This has been discussed here and there on this forum before. I don't think anyone has considered it a real possiblity. I think it's just the thought of putting Cornell's unique vocals together with the king of 6 strings and 10 fingers.

Of course with Ed in need of a singer and Cornell in need of a band, could the stars be aligining..... Naaaaaaaaa!

I'm lazy, can you post a clip?
