Thats Awsome!! Good Job. Just my opinion, I think it would be cool with the monkey grip thing that Vai does. Anyways, cool!

pretty cool. Did you paint the stripes or are they taped? I have a guitar that is striped with tape (not painted) and it doens't look as good as yours.

Well I'll be... I'm not the only one then... lol! Very cool, and I like your name for it better actually... IbanED... Nice.

And to answer ScottyBHarris, it's all paint on there. Actually my first attempt at painting a guitar... not bad, but could have been better. I got in too much of a rush at the end and slapped all the hardware back on it to see what it would look like, rather than finish it right. Once it was back together I figured screw it... "good enough" (ha!)

I prefer the "IbanED", but for his first try, this guy did a bang-up job.

Not a fan of Ibanez guitars......yes, I owned one, and later sold it.......but that's a very respectable first attempt.

Why f*ck up a JEM guitar while trying to master the whole "ghetto-paint job" thing?

I think you did really well.

LOL... oh man... I've asked myself that a thousand times since I did it.. hahaha... I had been in the mood to give the paint job a try, but didn't have the cash to buy a "1984" or an "Unchained"... I figured I would probably want to give it a "test run" anyway... the Ibanez had been sitting in it's case under my bed for over 10 years... what can I say? I'm a spontaneous motherf*cker at times... lol!

Now that I see what an old RG550 can fetch on the aution sites... doh!

    Oh well...

I bought what was my then dream guitar, an Ibanez R540 Custom, in 1993. I doubt that guitar will ever fit me again in feel, sound, or style, but I still can't bring myself to get rid of it. I don't know why!

I have a serious question about the whole "Frankenstripe" paint thing, and I in no way mean this in any kind of a condescending way; I simply don't share the enthusiasm for it. What is the fascination with painting a guitar to look like Ed's? I love the Ed-stripes thing as much as any VH fanatic, but I in no way want any of my axes to look like his. Is it like wearing the jersey of your favorite player? Who can put it in words?

You know Andrew, I think you summed it up pretty good there yourself... it's sort of like wearing the jersey of your favorite player. And in other ways, just sort of a little tribute maybe... I have a lot of friends who are in to VH, hell to us, in high school VH was THE band... period. So the painted guitar is something cool I can take out amongst those friends, and they all really get a kick out of it every time they see it.
It's certainly not a guitar I would ever gig with... not if I wanted to be taken seriously anyway... I realize that, and wouldn't want to play my own music on it in public. I certainly have my own style, which is nothing like Ed's, and I would feel pretty ridiculous taking that out on stage, unless it was done in a very obvious tongue in cheek or joking manner.
It's just for my own personal enjoyment.. to me that pattern just says "Van Halen". And like you said, sort of like wearing your favorite player's jersey or hanging a jersey on the wall, or displaying a game ball, or something like that.

If you were refuring to my "IbanED", that not a "real" Jem. That was custom built and painted (to the 5150) for me. Notice the red/white/black leaves in the vine to match the body and headstock. No Jem has that color combo in the vine and the body is maple........

I don't get it either, no offense to anyone who does. To me, although it was cool, that was Ed's thing. Also agree about the favorite player's jersey thing, especially if there's a name on the back.

Chick's in my high school used to wear their boyfriends' jerseys the day of or the day before a game. I'm no homophobe, I'm just saying....

hahahahahaha... ok. Yep dude. You figured it out. I didn't realize we had a psychologist amongst us. That's totally it... man, why didn't I realize what I was doing!?? Anybody who is a Van Halen fan and puts the stripes on something, or sports fans who want to show their pride and wear their favorite player's jersey, is really just a homosexual, emulating teenage girls who wear their boyfriend's jersey in high school!

Wow... thanks man! Let me divorce my wife and see if Eddie is available for dating.

    hahahahahahahahahahahahaha... f*cking idiot.
