Default The "I've officially played the 5150 III" thread

Yesterday in guitar center. I touched the $25,000 frankie too.

Bottom line: All three channels at low volumes sounded great. I'll be saving up my dough to score one of these puppies hopefully by next year.

A little to metal for my taste but the playing kicked a lot of ass.

I wish he would have included a little more top end, it's difficult to tell how the amp truly sounds (I'm sure it's brighter then that, it is a Fender).

His settings were interesting, I think he used something like 3/7/8 bass/middle/treble. The gain was apparently dimed on one of the channels.

Then the other guys in the thread (@ Harmony-Central) were ragging on the speaker cabinets he used.

I'd be more curious to hear what it sounds like in standard tuning, piped through some Greenbacks or Vintage 30s, and with the knobs adjusted.

There is probably much to discover about this amp.

Our local music store was going to bring one in, and I was quite interested to try it, but my friend there was telling me that his Fender rep told him he had to bring in 2 half stacks (one of each color) minimum. Well, this is a pretty small place as it is, and we only have 3 music stores, so selling 1 half stack, let alone 2, would be pretty hard; especially at this price. So it looks like I'll have to take a trip to try one out. The clips sound great. Not my music, but as was stated above, this amp has a lot to offer with different guitars, speakers, etc. I bet it will sound great with the EVH Wolfgang Mk.2 LOL.

I think it sounds great for what buddy is doing. I think we all know it'll do vh stuff great.

The thing I liked about it was that there wasn't a lot of that nasty preamp buzzsaw bullshit that happens so often with high-gain amps. With more presence it may start to buzz, but from that the amp sounds alright to me.

That's a Fender thing. Those who are more assciated with the business side of music store stuff can probably better explain it, but the store I teach at--which is a pretty big-sized non-chain store--isn't either a Fender or Gibson dealer because both make you buy such large quantities of their gear.

Dude, screw the amp. That guy sounds fucking AMAZING! He's got the hungry edge of a young George Lynch. He's one of the best sounding unknown players I've heard in years. (and I've been teaching 50+ kids a week for over 13 years) I want to know what recording gear he used and drum loops. Killer riffs with tons of feel. Nice job.

Don't like the tone, but the playing is great....George Lynch meets Zakk Wylde.

i'm really wanting to hate the amp ... but it's a pretty interesting tone.

there is something dry about it that i don't here with other amps that seems to make it stand out a bit.

oh yeah, like the dudes playing too.
