On the MTV 10 Spot I remember times when Gary looked like Ted...I think on the "point i'm trying make" stuff from Without You

Man, Gary has some pipes...I love hearing him sing the classic stuff.

I can't believe the VH3 tour was 9 freaking years ago already. That's pretty fucked up.

I can't think of any singer who ever looked more out of place with a band than Cherone did with VH. Just a bad fit on so many levels.

VH with Dave ('78-'84) - The best years....the "real" VH.
VH with Sam ('86-'96) - Incredible era....."We have renamed this town 'New Halen!'.
VH with Gary ('98) - Fucking disaster. WTF was that??
VH with Wolf/Dave ('12-'15) - Amazing comeback. Smokin' album and tours.

Ted Danson (or Sam Malone, that is) did mention Van Halen in an episode of Cheers once.

At least Cherone would attempt the classic stuff. Hagar had to be made to sing a couple and didn't do them justice whatsoever. Pathetic actually.

    Ed was on in 98.

The Ted Danson bit was good!

So you're faulting Sam for not sounding like Dave and that he didn't "attempt" them on the same level as Cherone.......?? That's really reaching.

Cherone was no prize at DLR era so let's not make him out to be more than he was at it. And Cherone had to pour everything he had into previous eras because it's all he had, his own era was garbage.....it's not what anyone wanted to hear.

I'm just saying that Cherone at least made an honest to goodness effort in singing some of those classics whereas Hagar deliberately botched the lyrics to Jump awhile back. And that should not have been tolerated by the rest of the band. Plus, he just sounded like he couldn't be bothered with singing them. As if it put him off. Sure, Cherone doesn't sound exactly like Dave, but he did his best. No one can sound identical. I'll at least give Cherone the credit here for going the extra mile.

And no, I don't like the Cherone era. At all.
