    Default Orig. MXR-117 Noise

I've been using my original MXR Flanger (w/the A.C. Cord) lately
when recording direct, and I don't know if I've never noticed it before
when playing through an amp, but I switch the fucker off and there's
this intolerable noise - kind of like the frequency you get from
an unplugged axe. You know, it's switched off, roll the volume knob all
the way down and the noise persists...so you can't record with it.

I use the fucker direct, tried in the FX loop (which blew) but still
get the same shit. I was wondering if any of you guys have the same
problem with the originals or if you've ever had any of them repaired.
I'd like to get it repaired/modded and shit, but I'm sure it'd cost as
much as a few flanger. From what I understand about them, I don't
think it has anything to do with the bypass.

    Thanks dudes
    FUCK THE DUMB SHIT!!!!

sounds like a possible short or ground problem.

If you know anyone with ANY eletrical knowledge, have them check for the obvious for you first before you spend money.

is a wire loose, is one shorted, is the switch bad, etc...

Yeah, I'd definitely move the cord around to see if that causes a solid connection and takes out the short. If it does, then you know its the cable. You could always try to take it apart (unplugged, of course!) and see if you can see any glaringly obvious problems.

Or take it to someone electrician-savvy or amp repair savvy and have them look at it.

Last resort, you could try sending it off to one of those boutique pedal makers (Keeley, etc) to see if they can mod/fix it for you.

I hope this helps. I have a 1978 MXR Flanger and I cherish it so. I would hate to have this happen.

Keep us posted on the net results when you get this fixed!

try cleaning the switch and bits with electrical contact cleaner (obviously when its unplugged) its readily available at places like radio shack etc.
i had a similar problem a few years ago and this sorted mine, years of dirty sneakers n boots jumping on a tiny little switch does eventually have a negative effect..lmao
if that doesnt work try a local repairer.
