"Limited Availability Products," huh? I wonder why the amp would be a limited run. The 5150s always sold very well (and still do under the 6505 moniker).

The covering is probably the Limited Edition part... I bet the "mass production" version will have black covering...

Do we have a firm price in yet? I love the look of this amp, I am thinking of getting one, just wondering what the sticker price is.

Actually, if the thing sounds good and is built to industry standards the price is reasonable. There are cheaper alternatives of course, but this isn't nearly the cash grab that the Charvels were.

Actually, I purchased a 5150 II head and cabinet new for $1350 out the door at a local shop in 1999. I believe that these were also "Designed to meet Edward Van Halen's exacting specifications"... So $3100 for a 5150 1/2 stack with 3 channels? Fuck that...

I love the quote at the bottom of the listing:
"Why did I want to do this amp? I'm a tone chaser! Edward Van Halen." Call or click today to order.

More like a "cash chaser"... But yes, the fan-boys will be lining up to max out their credit cards at Guitar Center...

    I also like this quote:
"The exact amp used in the studio and on stage by Edward."

More like "The exact amp used on satanic-porn soundtracks, and at backyard party's at Ed's house..."

    Or how about this quote?
"Preamp designed to add extremely high harmonic content - Makes notes seem to jump out of the guitar, and inspires creative, unpredictable playing "

Unpredictable playing - as heard on the 2004 tour

I had to go look up what I paid for my 5150s over the years. They're still made, of course (as the 6505), and can probably be considered competition for the new 5150 III.

My 5150s (all amounts listed include taxes and/or shippings costs associated with each purchase):

    11/1997 - 5150 head and slant 5150 cabinet (both new): $1,200
    11/2005 - 5150 straight cab (used): $320
    1/2006 - 5150 II head (used): $720
    1/2007 - 5150 212 combo (used): $330

If I was able to sell all of the 5150 stuff I've bought in the last ten years for exactly what I paid, the total for the two heads, the two cabs, and the combo amp--$2,570--would be enough to buy ONE of the new 5150 III heads, and I'd be halfway to buying ONE of the new cabs.

    I don't think so.

I bought a 5150 Half Stack when they first came out and paid around $1800.00 Canadian. Now I realize inflation, blah, blah, blah, but really, those prices are ridiculous. And according to something I read on another forum, the G12M EVH speakers are just re-labeled Greenbacks. Buy an Avatar 4x12 loaded with Greenbacks for a hell of a lot less than that. Nice looking amp though.

Actually it's not really a cash grab,, I mean yes but not as much as you may think. Think about this, same with the EVH Charvel series and MXR stuff. EVH is not a company,, legally and licensed company now. And EVH DOES NOT make the products nor sell the products cause they obviously are not a R&D team or distributor. Now I"m not lawyer and I know there are ones on here, so please correct me and make it more clear on this, but now doesn't Fender have to pay ELVH Inc. to make and distribute these products? So take into account that Fender's R&D team had to create these upcoming products, with EVH company more a quality control team that is seperate from Fender so you have Legal fees that would have to be included on prices and all that correct? So the high price of the EVH stuff would be more for the name to have EVH on it cause of the legal fees and company fees and what not???

It's not really a cash grab if you don't forget the fact that the previous incarnations were built by Peavey. What is the top end of the Peavey price point? The JSX? I am not going to buy this new amp, but a $2000 three channel, high gain amplifier is not outrageous by any stretch. Check the prices on other high-gainers. The Mesa MK IV is what $1699? The JSX is $1349, the 6505 is $1159, and a new Marshall tube head runs from $2170 (the 1959SLPX) to $1399 (JCM 2000 DSL 100). My point? It has been really easy to be critical of Ed's business decisions lately, and for the most part I am right on board, but this is an instance where if the specs reported are true this is a decent price.

    Just my $.02
