    Gold pickup covers for EMGs

I want to get a set of the Zakk Wylde EMGs to put in my Epiphone Les Paul Custom, but I noticed that EMG doesn't make gold pickup covers. Could I just get my own gold covers and put them over the EMGs myself? I hope this didn't sound like a stupid question, but I'm not too big on the guitar electronics/hardware department. I just play!

I know very little about EMGs, but you can easily buy gold pickup covers. If you are able to use them, it is very important to remember to wax them.

I talked to EMG about the pickup covers and they don't offer any. The aftermarket covers I've looked at don't cover the pickup due to the flaring of the EMG at the pickup base. I've seen them painted gold, but I can't be sure of the longevity of the paint. EMG doesn't require grounding of bridge pieces etc, so I'm not sure if they would require the covers to be grounded or not.

Not a yes or no answer, but that's all the info I've got on the subject.

Wow Scott, thanks for gathering all of that info for me. I really appreciate it. See, my Epi LP Custom has all gold hardware, and it just wouldn't look right without the gold pickups as well. If I can't get EMGs, can anyone recommend any other hot pickups with gold covering?

Cam, the Dave Mustaine live wire set from Seymour Duncan are hot pickups. They're like the Jazz Neck and JB bridge, but with more bite. You can also look at the Tony Iommi pickups from Gibson. They come in chrome, but those covers are removable and will accept new covers. Also check out the Gibson 498R and 500T. These are hot pickups as well.

I'd personally recommend the Duncan JB for the bridge and the Jazz Pickup for the neck. They'll do the crunch that you're looking for as well as the classic rock and clean stuff. They're worth checking out. If you need more help, don't hesitate to ask...

Oh, and watch out for Andrew. He's in to those Sustainer things. And I think we all know where that road will take you.
