Curt Flood "A Well Paid Slave", A Must Read!

I could have dumped this in the current baseball thread, yet I honestly believe this book would benefit fans of all sport.

I'm currently reading "Curt Flood-A Well Paid Slave" by Brad Snyder, which regards the landmark court cases that led to the developement (like it or not) of free-agency.

The bullshit this dignified man went through in his efforts to establish a fair working wage and rights for sportsmen in this country is a compelling tale. It is indeed sad that more of today's young people (as well as most sporting fans) know so little about his struggles, which benefited so many.

The sacrifices he made and the trials he bravely endured need to be read by a much wider audience, and I highly recommend this book to all true sportsfans, those of us who value the efforts of athletes in the pursuit of true competition and sportsmanship.

    Here's a link regarding the book: http://www.wellpaidslave.com/wellpaid.html

Thank you kindly, sir. Ironically, I was engaged in a convo yesterday about free agency, and it's affect on all sports. Curt Flood came up at one point of course. I'll have to check out that book.

My dad got me this book for Christmas because I wrote a paper for an economics class about the reserve clause last semester. I haven't read much of it because I don't read often. Last semester there were a few classes where I would go to and just read a book because the class was boring and it wasn't even worth paying attention. And so I read a few books last semester...and I only read sports books. But I don't have any of those classes this year and I don't read on my leisure time. But hopefully I'll get to it at some point.
