I don't follow the Marshall line very closely, but it's been my experience that more knobs on a Marshall equals more trouble dialing in tone.

I don't know about that line, but the new MV (modern/vintage ??) has been getting a lot of great reviews.

i own the avt20 and have to say it is one of the best sounding amps ive owned. it has great tone and is LOUD for only being 20 watts. got it for $300 and it is definitly worth it. im not sure what kind of info you want but they are very nice amps.

Well, the series isn't new, and if you want one, get one while you can because as of 3/28/07, the entire AVTX series is being discontinued. The only model that will remain is the AVT150XH head and the matching AVT412AX or AVT412BX cabs.

Everything I read on the Marshall site appears the only change is they updated the graphics on the front panel with a different font and placed the knob designation above the knobs instead of below. It appear more like their earlier all tube models on the face plate.

The only technical change is a variable speed fan... whoopty fuckin do!! That'll ensure it's place as a market leader. You know that fan will ensure killer tone!!! LOL.

Seriously... the AVT (AVTX) series is a pretty solid amp for tube/solid-state hybrid. As it sits out of the box it will deliver a good clean tone and decent distorted tone. For the price you can't find much better out there as far as tonal range.

I wasn't a big fan of these... until I bought one for my son. He lost interest so it sat in my studio for a while. On a whim... I replaced the factory 12AX7 Chinese manufactured tube with a 1942 Knight Mullard 12AX7. I'll be damned if that little amp didn't come to life and found it had a great tone from both ends of the spectrum!!

Given it's size/weight I 've found it easier to haul around and gig with rather than packing heads and cabinets to jam sessions and small gigs. Combined with Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and some A/B switching there's not much of tonal spectrum I can't hit from Jazz to Heavy Metal and all points in between.

If you land one of these... I'd suggest hitting the vintage market for an old dusty Mullard 12AX7 and you'd have great combo amp.

AVTX was the most recent version of the AVT, but according to the email from our Korg rep, the AVTX series is "going away", and all but the 150 head and cabs are being "disctontinued".
