    Default Does anyone know????

Was Sam & Mike's performance actually planned, or did they slap that together
    after VR's shitty performance.

Michael Anthony came ready to play. He had his bass, but who knows who he was expecting to play with.

I heard something about it on Sunday morning. Schaffer brought along the Oppenheimer Synth, the same one that Eddie used on Jump. The horn parts weren't something that was improvised. Schaffer had the band ready to play it, but didn't rehearse it with Sam or Mike. Note the look of suprise on Mike's face when the horns come in on his vocal part going into the solo.

That alone tells you it wasn't planned. My guess is that Mike brought the Bass along just incase, and when he and Sam seen how bad their tunes were being butchered they asked Paul what he had. And like you said, he and the band were ready to play it, for whatever reason. They must have talked about it at some point leading up to the induction.

Agree. That's what rock-n-roll's all about....get up there and play your balls off...which is what Michael and Sammy did (apparently with little notice or very little practice with Schafer and Co.).

David Lee Roth didn't "puss out" at all.

He was being told by the Hall and Velvet Revolver what they were willing to play for his induction performance.

Both the Hall and Velvet Revolver should have said "We'll play 'Jump' Dave, it's your night" but they didn't. Dave felt it was a slap in the face and decided to bail.

Velvet Revolver should have accomodated Dave (not the other way around). And based on how fucking bad it was, DLR did the smart thing and stayed as far away from this abortion as possible.

I m sorry to say this but I m very sure Schaffer could have played Jump. And that the HOF didnít want Roth is Bullshit and we all know that.

From what I've seen, there probably aren't to many songs Paul & the band don't know.

you're right about that, there's gotta be some other reason why Dave bailed.

Yeah Mike did look pretty suprised at the horns. Thought that was kind of annoying. They could have done without it.

Now that the induction is over we can look forward to what I hope will be a promising future for Van Halen once Ed controls the demons.

Just to set the record straight. That's an Oberheim synth.

WCTBL is a song that Paul and the CBS Orchestra have played many times during commercial breaks on Letterman.
I can imagine Paul having a quick conference with Sam and Mike during "Round Round", or whatever the fuck that noise was that VR were making, trying to salvage something out of the night.
My guess is that it was unplanned.

I dont know if anyone has an answer to the original question. The song did not appear to be rehearsed though. So my guess would be a last minute decision.
