Eddie's guitar playing. Almost every song has an outstanding solo, with the best one being in Year To The Day.

Fire in the Hole and Year To The Day.

The bad production and/or Gary Hagar puts a damper on both of 'em too.

Intro and outro to Fire in the hole. Year to the day is awsome live. Josephina acoustic guitar has some great phrasing.

I actually think eds solo work wasn't anything special new or different at all....I mean, it was still awsome, but nothing new. He hasnt made a stretch to anything new like I have counted on him doing with every chapter of his music. He usually has some hooky little lick that he does in a couple of songs on an album, thats new and usually kick ass. Not the case with this one. Kind of like bits and pieces of other solos he has done over the years that he just took stuff from and pieced into the album. I was pretty dissapointed with that really. As far as the album went, I'd say that as a collective piece, he stretched. But as far as guitar playing goes, it got put on the shelf for next time....I hope.

Wow...I think Year to the Day was his worst solo EVER. Obviously we are hearing things a bit different.

I think One I Want and Once are great songs, and NeWorld was a nice change of pace as an opener.

Outside of those specifics, the way Ed orchestrated parts to go along with the lyrics is actually quite remarkable, although the end result wasn't very listenable. If he could attain THAT kind of depth and maintain some semblance of a 'song' then he will could make a very definitive musical statement. Oh well, maybe next cd...whenever that will be.

I like the fact that it ends.

I like One I Want, but it was really a shame Ed didn't dress it up much. That could have been a rocker.

I like how much it makes me appreciate my other CDs.

I also like that if I were stranded on a little island with just 3, a boom box, and batteries that I could use 3 as a mirror to signal rescue planes.

Mike has some issues with III. But let's not dwell on that. I do love the solo on Year to the Day. I think that's one of Eddie's best, but what the hell do I know. Out.

That's exactly how I feel about his playing here. I can listen to VH3 once in a blue moon, if I block out Gary Cherone's irrating vocals. And I'd like to know who wrote the lyrics for One I want & Dirty water dog. Whoever it was could use a good kick in the nads, VH member or no. And I can do without silly 80's hard rock crap like From Afar.

I like most of "fire in the hole" and "without you" but that's really about it.

"Dirty Water Dog" and "How Many Say I" are good for a laugh so I guess I can say I sorta like those but other than these 4 songs, I like NOTHING... not even the cover.

I like some of the music , but for the most part a big let down for what I call the "Eddie Van Halen solo project".

I really dont like most of it. Too bad !!

I like the fact it's over and done with and hopefully that shit is out of Eddie's system. Now let's rock with Roth or Hagar!

Great album, too bad the production is bad and Gary is screaming out of his range too much. But I still love it.

Aside from the music, I love the picture inside of Eddie and Mikey sitting in the cart. Eddie is saying something and Mikey has a huge grin on his face; definitely one of the coolest pictures of VH I've seen.

The undertray picture is weird though. Mikey and Alex look like distorted wax figures, and Eddie looks really heavy in the face, as if the picture is from the FUCK era when he was heavier.

Wow, I was just thinking of starting a topic like this the other day. I like Newworld alot-nice and simple. I like parts of without You. I like the guitar solos. I like the remix of once-to bad it did not make the cd. I like the intro and outro of Fire in the Hole. I really like the guitar tone of Ballot or the Bullet.
I don't like the production, the vocals-lead or backing, I think Ed was having a mega ego trip while making this cd.
