Default How Long Will We Stay Interested?

Just curious, and mods I apologize if you don't feel that this deserves it's own thread...

But for all of you out there, at what point do you just forget about it? Stop visiting the links... Stop buying the signature gear/booze/food products? Stop trying to convert the virgins? At what point do we just stop?

Or are we addicted to a dysfunctional relationship like trailer tramps on the Maury Povich show?? (He's a good man... He didn't mean to do it..."

I would say that for me it might be Eddie's death, but I have a feeling, and forgive me for saying this, that upon his death we'll get more VH material than we have seen in the last 20 years.

Stop visiting links... nah it's a social habit.

Stop buying gear & crap... Last thing I bought VH related the MXR EVH Phase 90. Didn't buy it so much for the VH factor as it's just about the best Phase pedal on the market. Other than that you won't see a dime of my money going towards this band any time soon.

For all the rest I'm just around to watch the train wreck...

The question is, is there some kind of a catalyst that could actually succeed in making you stop caring about this band?

I'm only saying that for me as long as Ed is alive, I will probably still be curious. Even if I don't like the music that he's making, as I don't, I will probably keep tabs on the goofy shit that he's doing.

For me, its the music of CVH that keeps me going -- and the fact that all members are at least alive (though one may not be functioning at 100%).

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- if there is no VH tour this year and no Eddie and Alex at the Hall ceremony, consider the band to have absolutely ZERO hope of ever getting things together again.

    This is it.

Actually, at this point it's like a car wreck....I don't care as much as i used to, I just can't look away. Plus, I'm rooting for Ed to pull his shit together, music or no...

The Rock Hall is my last day. If they fuck that up, I am done.

I am bringing a coffin with the VH logo on it and with all my VH shit in it and burying it at the Rock Hall. Then I am done.

Its like the Anna Nicole saga, every time I see another report on FNC or CNN I can't believe its still going on and then I watch the whole report.

Sad but true, people love a good train wreck.

Reading everybody’s entries. This why I think the Tour was stopped. Because the Fans have been fucked with so much that the Promoters don’t even know if at this point the Tour will sell. Look @ the Police! They are selling out every ware. I just don’t see VH doing that now. It’s too…………. Late guys.

Nobody here is done, nobody...even if they fuck up the whole rock hall thing. Fact is, if EVH gets sober, truly sober, and starts making music, (great music like we know is possible) with either Sam or Dave....then we all will be in for that.....(with the exception of a few tards). If Ed and the boys, including Mikey are on stage, happy, making music, entertaining like no other rock band is capable of, then every one of the losers here....including myself....will be buying into it completely. There is still time, and I don't know if that is a good thing or not, cuz' the bastards just keep us hanging on!! Hope springs eternal??

Maybe they can't pull it together...

Maybe this drunken train wreck is the best we can expect...Or at least it's an excuse.

Name one artist who was groundbreaking, lived and sustained the same level of brilliance?

    Even Stevie Wonder got lame.

My guess is this part of Ed's baggage.

    QUOTE]

define level of brilliance? is it defined by the artist still getting played on the radio/tv? because a lot of great stuff gets recorded and virtually not heard, so does that make those artists any less brilliant? and a lot of artists still get airplay but produce manufactured, polished turds of music? does that make them more brilliant?

the stones and aerosmith have managed to stay relevant, at least as far as getting new material played on classic rock stations, with the occassional crack into the pop charts...

the who and eagles can still tour and do big business as well, but maybe don't get the airplay as much...

sting managed to keep himself relevant, but some would question his solo output of the last 10 years...

motley crue proved with that with the right amount of hype, you can still fill arenas, while respective solo gigs had failed to fill clubs at the time (vince solo, brides of destruction, tommy solo)...

axl proved that a strong brand name can still go a long way of fooling enough people to show up at shows as well... he's hired guys that can make the songs sound pretty good live... and he's delayed his new album for the umptienth time...

but as far as creating new music? at some point, an artist becomes repetitive unless they branch off in different musical directions... bon jovi has been trying to reinvent themselves several times the last several years... they've got a country record on the way (i kid you not), so now they're trying to tap into that market based on the success of a single from the previous record... does this make bon jovi a brilliant band? i think not...

UMMMM... WHAT WAS THE QUESTION AGAIN???
