Default 3 "killer" songs from the 2000 sessions

what's out there to hold them back from putting the 3 songs that are supposedly "in the can" from their 2000 hook-up with Dave, on the '78-'84 package that's rumored to be forthcoming ?

no need to clear it with Mike, if he signed away any say-so he may have previously had......and knowing Mike......he'd let 'er rip for the fans, anyways.

Sammy was not involved, so, he's out of the discussion.

    (?)

what.....to torture us fans, clammoring for new, quality tunes.....knowing the songs are out there.....but never to be heard ?????

so much, this band has the capacity to do, for their fans.

so little, they actually choose to.

    it's unfortunate.

Crystal ball, can you tell me the future of this thread?

    *Yes, it will be closed.*

Those three new songs were probably only in demo form, and when was the last time you heard of VH revisiting anything from the past for release? Ed likes to go with the mood of the day, so your best chance at hearing those songs is if they're re-worked and re-recorded.

It probably has more to do with getting yet MORE Accountants,Agents, Attorneys, and Record execs involved.....We don't need that right now, seeing as how that's why it all fell apart in 2000 anyway......Baby steps.

We are all baffled as well.

If those songs were to be included in the up-coming VH Best Of or Greatest Hits CD, then there is an INCENTIVE to purchase.
    DLR, circa 2001:

"Hey this is David Lee Roth and I promised you the news and here's the news.

About a year ago myself and the great Van Halen band played together once or twice and it sounded amazing!

In the following several months Edward and I, Edward Van Halen and me, David Lee Roth, created some of the most amazing, phenomenal - the hands fell off the clock ladies and gentleman and we wrote three astonishing tunes.

That was last July (2000) and since then I haven't been up to the studio, we haven't really been in touch and we haven't made any music, but I am holding forth, I'm in the shape of my life and I got the high note - I'm ready to go.

And I am positive for the future ladies and gentleman.

Stay tuned and I'll tell you what the future brings..."

...or Up for Breakfast? At the very least the beginning of that song is taken from Fire in the Hole. There are other cuts and drops from other VH songs in other parts of the song as well.

I'd have to say that if the three songs from 2000 are ever released they will sound nothing like they did seven years ago.

One more point...this "Best of" package is being driven by WB. As long as there is little or no direct involvement by VH; there will not be any previously unreleased music on the disc because WB isn't the rights holder for it.

yea......and there's no money in recorded music anymore.......

supposedly, artists can only pull $$$$ on the road, anymore.

    so, why do it.....right ?

i mean.....that "must" be the mentality......

how else could you explain it ?

    (sarcasm)

Someone in their organization has to leak those songs. That's the ONLY way we'll ever hear them.

Perhaps the song's..... Suck! Just because Dave said they were terrific, well that means nothing. Remember Dave wanted to do music similar to the ''Chemical brothers'' As I recall ''No Hold's BBQ'' came out right after the attempt with VH so perhaps it's better they stay locked up. Just a thought.

ed and al don't work that way, if they did they would have realized that the 04 sessions with sam were going badly after they did LTS and jsut threw some leftovers on BOBW instead of forcing it and releasing IAT and UFB.

Unless they do a complete 180 the only way you'll see new material from VH is if indeed it is "new" material and unless ed's changed his spots and no longer feels compelled to do everything new material will sound liek a disjointed mess.

    Hope this helps.

Did you read the part where I said "re-worked" and "re-recorded." VH has revisited old stuff, but it has always been re-done. They are extremely unlikely to release anything leftover or old, was my point.

    think there is a fear-of-rejection factor ?

i mean....if you think about it........there has been no, 100% new cd's full of tunes for anyone to critique, or "not" spend their money on since "3"........

fear of failure, or the tarnishing of a history of stellar recorded music ?

affraid that the present, can't or won't live up to the past ?

no new music = no critics ?

has Ed lost the will to "put it out there", for fear of rejection, and taking hits to his ego ?

has he lost the balls to take a chance, and fail ? maybe ?

    hope this isn't the case.

this band has always been about "balls", in one way or another......having big-ball swagger.......or kicking someone's......etc, etc, etc.....

    I think you nailed it.
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett
