    Default Backing Vocals 2007 Tour

I think this issue definately warrants its own thread so here it is!

My concern is that without Mike, and with Eddie no longer the backing vocalist he once was, (for reasons we all know) how the hell are Van Halen going to even come close to attaining the right sound??

Wolfgang is 16, and he may have amazing pipes, but I really do worry that this will be the main problem arising from Michael Anthonys absence. To an extent the actual bass is either hit or miss, being that its obvious when a mistake is made but with the backing vox its a different issue.

Think we might have to have some Steve Augeri-Journey backed up vocal type scenarios? (that was a joke by the way)

They'll be some augmentation, no doubt.

Whether that will be in the form of back ups on stage or tapes remains to be seen.

They won't be the first nor the last band to go this route.

Sadly, I won't be surprised if they have pre-recorded vocal tracks or extra backup singers on tour. Nothing is beneath them anymore. I didn't always feel this way.

OK, before I state this let it be known this is NOT AN ATTEMPT to flame Dave.
But, don't you think it would be a struggle using pre-recorded backing vocals with Dave at the helm? One thing about Dave, is he's always improvised frequently live. There wouldn't be much room for that at all with piped in vox.
Could they really pull it off? I mean, for one song, maybe. But you'd have to think they'd need to do it the entire show if they're gonna do it. Seems to me it would really limit Dave being Dave.
    SOME VH LINKS CLASSICS

"Sammy is fat, Dave is bald, Mike is next in line to be the Pope, Eddie is a drunk, Wolfie is fat, Gary is gay, CVH is VH, Mike is VH, Sammy can outsing Dave on a tequilla hangover, Eddie is a meth head, How Many Say I is the worst VH song ever, Up for Breakfast is a close second, Dave was horrible at radio and everybody hates the assless chaps.
Ok I think that covers everything." Ziggysmalls

"I sense that some of our newer passengers may be nervous due to the sudden turbulence. Please be seated, this is simply a normal part of the periodic ride.
I didn't say we'll get to the destination, but until Alex comes out a says what a complete waste of carbon DLR is, we're still climbing, so strap yourselves in.
Those of you who have been on this ride before, the hottie in the mini will be around shortly with your drinks......." Red

I can see a couple of female backup singers on tour with them.
It works with Motley Crue, why not Van Halen?

Even if Mike was still in the band it still wouldn't sound right because this isn't the same Dave as it was 23 years ago. So I am interested to hear how they arrange the songs this time.

Dude whatever. It's going to sound doubly bad since the two guys who still sang well are gone. No Sam, no Mike...you're left with Ed who can't play anymore, a 15-year old on bass, Dave who struggles a lot with his voice still, and Alex...who seems to be the only one left who can still play right.

I like Motley Crue, Van Halen is a little bit above them in the rock and roll food chain.

As long as Ed's drinking is kept down, he can still play. I hope that Ed's recent sighting at a health food store by (either Mark or Brian) is a sign that he is getting himself into shape and is getting his shit together.
