    Default Rate the Albums

Just sort of wondering what the non-terminally biased fans might think of VH's product. Based on a 5 star rating, 5 being the best here's mine:

    Van Halen - * * * * *
    Van Halen II - * * * *
    Women and Children First - * * *
    Fair Warning - * *
    Diver Down - * * *
    1984 - * * * * *
    5150 - * * * *
    OU812 - * * *
    F.U.C.K. - * *
    Right Here, Right Now - * * *
    Balance - * *
    Best of Vol. 1 - * * * * *
    VH III - *
    Best of Both Worlds - * * *

I know that there are the Fair Warning fans that will give that album a five star rating. That's cool. It's just my least favorite Dave album for me.

What I won't find interesting are DLR fans that give every DLR album 5 stars and Sammy's albums one star, or Sam fans that do the opposite.

For me, I have rated lower Fair Warning, Diver Down, OU812 and F.U.C.K. than I used to because they just don't hold up over the decades. I just get bored with them now and turn them off before they are over. The 4 and 5 star albums still float my boat though. Often.

Oh, and Best of Both Worlds gets knocked down because I don't like the three new Sammy songs and the three live songs were a cheap blow. If it had some unreleased live stuff from Dave or Live Without a Net, it would have scored higher. As it is, I pass over BOBWs for the original albums.

“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

Shit... sorry, I misunderstood. I rated them in order.

Van Halen - ***** Absolute classic.
VHII - **** Strong follow up, even though Ed always said how "rushed" it was. "Bottoms Up!!" is sick in concert.
    WACF - ****
    Fair Warning - **** 1/2
Diver Down - ** 1/2 Sorry, just too many damn covers. However, I do love most of the original material on this album. I'll never understand why they didn't throw "Big Trouble" on there.
    1984 - ***** Another classic
5150 - **** 1/2 Great introduction to Sammy as frontman.
    OU812 - ****
F.U.C.K. - **** It was nice to see them play heavy again after the synth driven OU812.
LRHRN - ** 1/2 Too much F.U.C.K., not enough DLR material. This album to me says in a nutshell the whole problem with Sammy era VH...Sam's stubborness about playing Dave stuff live. The band sounds great, but would it kill to throw "Unchained," or "Runnin' With The Devil" on there? "One Way To Rock" instead of a DLR tune???? PLEASE!!!
Balance - *** 1/2 Some of the lyrics on this album make me cringe.
III - ** Didn't hate it as much as most, but still far from their finest moments. "Without You," "Once," and "Josephina" are pretty good tunes though.
Best of Vol. I - ***** Hey, the first VH compilation...I had to love it. Throwing "Humans Being" on there was a nice touch. Also, I loved "Can't Get..." and "Me Wise Magic."
BOBW - **** All those great songs on two discs are awesome...would've been 5 stars if it weren't the SECOND compilation. Also, the new songs show why the Sam era had to end...still awful lyrics.

    PEACE!!!

Negativity gets perpetuated on this board, and things like the III album and '04 tour get made out to be worse than they were. III fell short in a lot of areas, but the cool things on it get overlooked among all of the "pile of shit" talk it gets.
