...A number of things are quiet obvious.

    1. David Lee Roth has not matured in any way, shape or form since his ego led him to piss away the greatest gig in rock and roll way back in 1985 and 1996 for that matter. Dave showed complete disrespect for Sammy, and I was embarassed for him in all honesty. Dave took full advantage of the fact that he has a long standing friendship with Howard Stern and Sam should be commended for literally walking into a "no win" situation this morning.

    2. Both Dave and Sam showed a total disrespect for Edward and Alex Van Halen. Dave calling Ed, "Edward Van Heineken" and Sammy talking about shoving it up "the Brothers ass" pissed me off beyond belief. Both of these guys would be nowhere at this point in time if it werent for Ed, Al and Mike.

    3. Dave is making a wise decision to play mostly DLR era VH songs, because nobody and I mean absolutely nobody would go see DLR if he were to play crap like "Sensible Shoes", "Just A Gigolo", and the long list of medicocre crap he has released since his initial departure from the group that made him a household name.

    4. Sammy (in my opinion) will be altering his set list after a few shows (if the tour lasts after the Cleveland opener) because the crowd isn't really going to the show to hear either man's solo stuff they want to hear VH, plain and simple. With all due respect to Sam's solo material (which is leaps and bounds better than Dave's) everyone is going to hear both eras of Van Halen for the price of one ticket.

    5. After hearing both of these guys spew forth their venom toward the "brothers" I'm not sure that I would want either one of them to work with VH ever aagain. DLR is definately a victim of advance lead singers disease, and Sammy is also a victim of the dreaded LSD only he is inflicted with a lessser strain of the illness.

    6. Finally I look forward to a NY area show (if the tour lasts that long). In spite of all the negative feelings I have about these two guys after this mornings radio broadcast the show will be nothing short of spectacular.

    7. At this point I'm starting to really feel that maybe the best thing for Van Halen would be to let the bands history speak for itself and make new music under a new moniker with a new vocalist OR do a final reunion tour with both Dave and Sammy and go out with a final blaze of glory for the die-hard fans

David Lee Roth (in studio) And Sammy Hagar (on phone) Talk Touring. 5/7/02. 8:45am
Former Van Halen frontmen, David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar, are going to tour together this year so Howard wanted to talk to them. David Lee Roth came in the studio and Sammy Hagar called in to talk about this tour. Both of them have badmouthed each other on Howard's show in the past so Howard was playing clips all morning.
Howard said Dave was happy as he always is when he comes in. Sam was on the phone from California so he was 3 hours behind on time so he was a bit sleepy. Dave was wired as he usually is and he wouldn't stop talking. The two of them were getting along pretty well when the interview started. It didn't take long before Dave started making little digs at Sammy but Sammy just sat back and took it.

Dave told Howard that this tour is kind of an ''F-You'' to the guys in Van Halen just to prove that they both still have careers even though they were tossed out of the band. Sammy said that he's doing this to prove that he's just as good or better than Dave.

Dave said that he's going to stick to Van Halen songs in his act but Sam said he's going to play some Van Halen stuff but most of his show will be his solo stuff.

This tour was Dave's idea and he had his assistant contact Sam's manager. They later met in a meeting and got along just fine when they decided to forget about everything from the past. The agreed to do the tour and will even take the stage together if the fans want that. Sam said that he will even play guitar during a song for Dave if he wants.

Howard reminded both Dave and Sam about what they've said about each other in the past when he replayed some old interviews. Sam said he regretted calling Dave a goofball when Howard asked him if he'd ever hook up with Dave to tour way back in 1997.

Sam and Dave are going to flip flop opening and closing the show during this tour. Howard was set to do the first coin toss to find out who will open the first show. Both of them think that they should close these shows so they had to agree to flip flop them. While Howard was talking to them about all of this they were both making little digs at each other. Dave made a lot of jokes about Sam and Sam said he's going to do his best to blow Dave off the stage at these shows. Of course Dave thinks he's better than Sammy so he thinks he's going to blow Sam off the stage. They both agree that these will be great shows.

Artie Lange spoke up and said that he's a huge Van Halen fan. He said if he goes to one of these shows and Dave opens up with a bunch of Van Halen songs, he's probably just going to leave when he's done. Howard tried to convince Sammy that he's going to need to play more Van Halen songs. Sam said he opens up with ''Shockadoobie'' while Dave opens up with ''Hot for Teacher.'' The guys all think that Sam needs to open up with something other than ''Shockadoobie.'' Someone even suggested that they both perform the same songs and have a competition. That's not going to happen though.

Howard moved on to do the big coin toss to decide who will open or close the first show on the tour. Sam took heads while Dave got tails. Howard took the coin and flipped it and got tails. Dave won the toss and said he's going to headline the first night. Sam said no one is ''headlining'' the show. One band opens and one closes the show. Dave gets to close that first show. After that they'll start flip-flopping back and forth. The first show of 'The Song for Song Tour' takes place in Cleveland, Ohio on May 29th.

The way the guys were going at each other makes it sound like this tour may not last long. Howard and Robin want to see them if they make it to New York though... if they last that long working together.

Howard took a few phone calls for the guys after Sammy threatened to get off the phone. Sam thought for sure that Howard was going to have someone on the phone bashing him. The first caller was a Sammy fan though. A few callers asked some questions and didn't get too nasty when they called in. Howard wrapped up his call with Sam after the fans called in. He spent a few more minutes with Dave and then wrapped it up with him too. Dave was still making digs at Sam so it's sounding more and more like they're not going to be able to get along during this tour.

I would just like to remind the SHEEP who accuse Dave and/or Sammy of "disrespecting" Eddie & Alex, that if the Lying Dutchmen hadn't shit all over both of them and all of us, this tour would not exist.

Um so ok anyways. Without bashing each other with the tired "sheep" nonsense, I thought they were kinda funny. Not sure they really were that negative towards Ed and Al, seemed mostly in fun to me. A lot worse has certainly been said in the past.

I'm sure that whatever Sammy and Dave say in public is different than what they say in private.

Everything is schtick with Dave, haven't you guys figured that out yet? The guy will never be serious in public, that's just not his persona.

If this thing is truly a battle between "heavyweights" as DLR said, I would prefer the two to stay in separate corners and bring the hulabaloo to the ring instead of the weigh-in press conference.

Otherwise the whole thing will come off looking as ridiculous as it sounds.

I thought it was a good interview but Dave does need to learn to let the other guy have the mic every once in awhile...
