Default 10 stories the nation's mainstream news media ignored, neglected or missed last year

    Censored Stories
The 10 stories the nation's mainstream news media ignored, neglected or missed last year
    By SARAH PHELAN

Last month, two news stories broke the same day: one meaty, one junky. In Detroit, U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor ruled that the Bush administration's warrantless National Security Agency surveillance program was unconstitutional and must end. Meanwhile, somewhere in Thailand, a weirdo named John Mark Karr claimed he was with 6-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey when she died in 1996....

    You know what?

I saw ALL of those items in the news. What the fuck do they mean by censorship?

They need to accept the fact that all of those stories made the news at some level, that NSA decision got multiple-night play on the national news and was topic #1 on the cable talking head shows for over a week.

What they have a problem with/can't accept is that nobody really gives a shit. Either because they don't care or because (like me) they understand that these stories are still developing.

So I suppose you think it's just a coincidence that the Mark Foley kiddie diddler story broke less than 12 hours after the Senate took another giant shit all over the Constitution with the torture bill?

Fact is that time after time over the last five years, about anytime the Bush Criminal Empire is about to get some well deserved bad press, there's always some diversionary bullshit story launched to intercept it.

The color coded "terralerts" worked for a while, but even the sheeple caught on, and finally dumbass Tom Ridge came out and admitted that they were mostly bullshit.

So after that it was dead blond girls in Aruba, Mormon blond girls abducted by cultists in Utah, some stupid fucking whore who left her idiot fiance at the altar and pretended she was kidanpped, and a few dozen other stories that NOBODY OUTSIDE OF THE IMMEDIATE FAMILY SHOULD EVER GIVE A FLYING FUCK ABOUT. Yet the networks ran these non-stories as if they were national emergencies. So they could conceal the REAL news that the Fraudministration didn't want you to know about.

Joe Stalin would have killed 20 million more people to get a state media like this.

The 24 hour news stations have figured out since OJ that crime, especially if the people are attractive or young, sells. It's all about ratings. Unfortunately, the average viewer will sit and watch non stop coverage of Mark Karr's plane trip, however their eyes glaze over talking about National Security.

Somehow, the 24 hour news stations and the internet have made us as a society dumber, or maybe just lazier or more apathetic.

Like I said, ALL of those stories were covered in the news at multiple outlets.

There's no censorship involved here, just the inability of the finest newsrooms in the country lacking the ability to tell the stories in a way that people can relate to them. They've missed bigger stories in the past, S&L scandles of the 1980 went on under their noses and the corperate scandles of the late 1990s went unreported by everyone except for a spunky staff reporter at Forbes, who actually bothered to look at their numbers and noticed that they didn't seem to add up.

Then, sad to say, the American people ain't the sharpest tools in the shed either. If you look at how the situation with North Korea is reacted to by everybody. They've got no historical perspective, even from the end of WWII, and the media has people thinking that North Korea is going to launch on us at any second. Then the same media turns around and blames Bush for not having one-on-one talks with NK, even though the Korean War as fought under the U.N. flag and the cease-fire was signed under the U.N.'s command. Nowhere in any of the coverage have you seen this as a UN diplomati failure, just a US one. It's not even bais, it's just stupidity on the part of the news media as a whole, or is that "Hole"?

Not the corporate whore media. Or if they were covered at all they were buried on page C-27 of the newspaper. Certainly the destruction of Habeus Corpus merits a front page headline. But it didn't get one in any newspaper, or on any TV show I saw. Only on Air America radio, independent web based media, and foreign newspapers such as The Guardian (UK).

Problem is, those sources are only utilized by those who KNOW that they aren't getting the truth from Murdoch, Disney, and TimeAOLWarnerCNN.

Inability, or willful ignorance to serve their own interests?

Bush is to blame for North Korea's escalation, because he told a speechwriter to include some random "non Arab" country in their fictional "Axis of Evil", and then turned around and said how much he loathed Kim Jung Il, in an on camera interview. That was a classless and stupid move which no President had ever done before. Granted, you can bet Harry Truman was no fan of Joe Stalin, but he knew better than to say so on camera. Even Reagan's labelling of the USSR as "the Evil Empire" was considered way over the top, and he was cautioned not to do it. But that pales in comparison to what Chimpy said, and besides, Mikhail Gorbachev was completely sane.

Even a sane leader would have to take what Chimpy said as a threat. A lunatic like Kim Il Crazy would take it even worse. He and the Shrub really are two of a kind.
