Default Twenty Years Ago Tonight: 9/29/86

I woke up this morning and realized that 20 years ago today I went to my
first Van Halen concert at the Houston Summit. I even remember the
names of the friends I went with. One of my friend's dad drove us to
the show. He sat in his seat, wearing ear plugs and reading a paperback
with one of those "Li'l Book Lites". The only time he wasn't reading was
during Eddie's solo, at the end of which my friend's dad stood up and
    applauded.

I think I'll pop in "Live Without A Net" after the twins go to bed... better
yet, I think I will put it on and tell them its "The Wiggles".

    J.A.S. 8/10/1936 - 10/28/2006. I miss you, Mom.

My favorite number used to be 5150. Now, it's 41-38.

I saw them the last 4 nights of that tour. The last night, Eddie came out with a buzzed haircut and a little tail on the back of his head. Those were the days.

I was at that show in the Summit. What I remember most about that show was waiting in line overnight at the old Texas Tapes and Records for tickets when they first went on sale thinking what the hell am I doing. One thing that stands out after all these years about the concert was when a banner was thrown on stage that read Drop Dead Dave instead of Drop Dead legs and the crowd bood their ass off while Sammy said something like "hey I don't know the guy." Great times.

Aug 20th 1986 at the Worcester centrum was my 20th anniversary. I play drims in a VH tribute band now and we did a show on that night and played in honor of that first concert.(the singer and I went together when we were 15). Yeah those were the days. Eddie screwed up the trans trem during his solo and went up to the mic and said "so I fucked up! What more do ya want!".

I was at that show, I was 18.

What I remember most about that show was watching Ed sitting up on the right side of the stage as started into the 316 part of the solo. I remember being in total awe of the fact that I was in the same building as Eddie Van Halen. I couldn't believe it, Eddie freaking Van Halen was within shouting distance of me. I absolutely worshipped the guy at that point in my life.

Oops! I meant Aug 12th! I think they did four shows at the Centrum and I went on Tuesday. I, like you worshiped Eddie and Alex and could not believe I was in the same building. I loved the sound of Alex's set and not long after bought myself a simmons set to emulate his sound. I still have the set! I remember Mikes bass just about shook whatever fillings I had right out of my teeth. Sammy was great too. What an awsome memory.
