    Default Bush Assassination

Fake Documentary Looks at Bush Assassination

Bush is shot by a sniper in a scene from Death of a President.
Filmmaker Says He Wants to Spark Debate About White House Policies

Sept. 1, 2006 - On eve of the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the Toronto Film Festival will debut a British movie depicting the fictional assassination of President George W. Bush.

Mixing real archive footage and computer generated imagery, "Death of a President" shows President Bush being gunned down by a Syrian sniper during a Chicago anti-war protest in October 2007. When word of the provocative plot hit the blogosphere Thursday, it sparked outrage, particularly among conservatives.

"Sicko" is how radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh described director Gabriel Range.

Congressman Peter King, R-N.Y., chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, called the movie "absolutely disgraceful." Neither man has seen the flick, but both fear life could imitate art.

"This is a dangerous world," Rep. King told one cable news channel. He warned that this mock-documentary "could incite real violence." The White House and U.S. Secret Service would not comment on the movie, but former agents say it is definitely cause for concern. "It puts ideas in people's heads," said Patrick Lennon, who shadowed five presidents during his 22 years with the Secret Service. "With the amount of nuts out there, who knows what they could conjure up after seeing a film like this." Lennon says the Secret Service will likely request an advance copy of the movie to evaluate how dangerous it is. "It could spur copy cat activity," says Joe LaSorsa, who spent 20 years protecting presidents for the Secret Service. Range, the filmmaker, defended the movie in a press release.

"It's a striking premise which may be highly controversial. But it's a serious film, which I hope will open up the debate on where current U.S. foreign and domestic policies are taking us," he said. "Depicting the assassination of a president is in poor taste," said former agent LaSorsa, "and never helpful" to the Secret Service. LaSorsa hopes no one goes to see the film, but that is unlikely, given that it will play not just in Canada, but on British television as well.

    No shit...

You stole the words right out of my mouth...

    How 'bout this quote:

"It could spur copy cat activity," says Joe LaSorsa, who spent 20 years protecting presidents for the Secret Service.
If that's the case, how come I don't have some crazy bisexual chicks showing up at my door wanting to fuck???

I think I'd prefer they use fictional characters, but as long as the assassination depiction itself is not in poor taste, I think it's an interesting concept.

Absolutely disgraceful. Whether you support Bush, or not, or even if this was about an assassination on a democratic president, I'd feel the same way. This guy needs to find better use of his time

Oh so it's fake. I thought I missed something again.

EDIT: Whoever made this ridiculous thing is an idiot. I'm not gonna dignify it by referring to it as a movie as it's a waste of time, money and film.

If he is that worried that someone will be able to assassinate the President after only watching a movie, maybe he is not doing his job too well!

But seriously, if a moviemaker can conjure up a plot for an assassination, anyone else could do the same thing. The people that seriously want to kill the President have already thought about it. For the rest of us, seeing a movie isn't going to make us snap and become homicidal. It is not like this movie will be showcasing security loopholes and ways to get to the President, either. It is just fiction.

This bothers me. Even though the director might not agree with Bush's policies, why does he have to be an attention whore by doing something so disrepectful. Couldn't he use his brains and talent to think of some other way to draw attention to his ideas? Bush is a symbol and representative of this country, like it or not.

Everyday the boundries of good taste erode.

Agreed. Movies are only movies, and have had little or no effect on society and certainly no effect on governments.

My prediction......this will be forgotten. No one has anything to worry about. Eventually Fahrenheit 911 went away too.

Seems to me that this movie was created to inspire serious dialogue about the premise of murdering Bush in order to PREVENT it from happening, because - make no mistake - America's enemies are just looking for the opportunity to do so.

This movie could end up saving Bush's life.

And think of how much sooner it would have gone away had people who disliked it simply let it slip into oblivion.

Discomforting would seem to be a lot better way to describe the movie's premise than anything else.

Yup. The more people cry about it, the more popular the movie will get. people never learn. I can already hear Ann Coulter's teeth grinding. LOL

I'm no Bush fan, but I'd never spend a nickel on a piece of trash like this.
