I was driving a co-worker of mine to lunch the other day when we were listing to "Hot For Teacher" on CD in my car. He said he wasn't a big Van Halen fan, but he really liked that song. I asked him if he'd heard other songs by them, and he said that he only heard the main ones that are played on the radio. So I said, "You haven't heard anything yet!" I took "1984" out and put in "Fair Warning" and turned it up. I watched his mouth fall open and his eyes widen when the intro to "Mean Street" faded in. He couldn't believe what he was hearing! He was totally blown away by it.

Introducing someone to Van Halen's music is a pretty cool experience. A lot of people think of "Jump" and "Why Can't This Be Love" when they think of Van Halen. The "radio fans" don't know about the bad ass stuff on "Fair Warning". I wish I could've seen my face when I first heard that song.

"One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne

"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello

Very cool Ashe! Kick ass- I've done that a few times with people I meet. I always go for the "big guns" too and pull out Fair Warning.

Isn't it great to see something experience that for the first time?

Aside from the band being a bunch of classless dicks at the moment, they sure have given us a lot of great experiences!

Great story! You gotta love the expression on people's faces when they hear the mighty VH for the first time. Absolutely priceless!!!
