I haven't seen or heard the set list. I highly doubt Dave is doing a set of blue grass crap.

I was there last night at HOB. NO BLUEGRASS. The show cooked. He must peruse VH and Dave sites. He dropped the infamous JD Spritzer everyone seems they can't get past on here. He had Toshi and Brian Young on guitars. He had Todd Jensen on bass. His drummer he announced as Jimmy DeGrassi. He was a good drummer. Name sounds familiar. Was he in White Lion? People went nuts during the show. It was rowdy down front where I was standing. Many people were ejected from the show for being drunken fools. They had an opener called Suffrajet. Pretty good band with a female lead vocalist. Setlist was similar to recent tours. He could stand to add a few more solo hits at least. No one watching complained though. They enjoyed the show. They were screaming and singing along. I think we overananlyze it too much sometimes. People seemed to scream louder when he would do the karate kicks or do his sword show during Jump. So most normal crowds would expect him to do these kind of things. It was a good time. He played on for about 2 hours. It was a late start. He didn't go until 10. Here is the setlist:

    Hot For Teacher
    Mean Streets
    Just Like Paradise
    Runnin' With the Devil
    You Really Got Me
    California Girls
    Beautiful Girls
    Somebody Get Me a Doctor
    Jamie's Crying
    And The Cradle Will Rock
    Just a Gigolo
    Unchained
    Panama
    Dance The Night Away
    Ice Cream Man
    Everbody Wants Some!
    Ain't Talkin' Bout Love
    Jump

With the exception of the DLR solo stuff that would be a kickass setlist for VH to do.
I used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass.

Jimmy De Grasso was drummer for White Lion right before they broke up in the 90's.
Don't drink the Jim Jones punch. They're called theToxic Twins for a reason...

Nice to know Dave is doing a real rock show. And that setlist is awesome. I wish he'd add in "A Lil Ain't Enough" though...or something from that album. How'd he sound?

Sounds like an awesome setlist minus Gigolo and California Girls.

I am not asking for all VH songs but Roth has other solo stuff better than those 2 clunkers.

These songs over Yankee Rose ?? WTF is he thinking ?

He sounded great. I don't see what the big deal is about his voice. He sang the songs, and he did a fantastic job. It was a real rock show. He stuck to business. The crowd got into it.

I wish he would come somewhere near here, but it doesn't look like it.

I do wish he would throw some of his solo stuff in the set list other than the cover songs from "Crazy From The Heat". He did have some good solo stuff and should play more of it live.

Actually, I'm not too happy with this set. Same old, same old. I'm supposed to see him in Morongo next month, but this set of standard anthems is making me think twice about it. The only songs I have even a remote interest in seeing live from the Diamond, given this group of tracks, is HFT, EWS, and Mean Street.

The rest of it....ehhh. Gigolo? Cal girls? RWTD....AGAIN. Jump. Panama. Just like Paradise. DTNA.

Come on Dave, be the ball. Throw in some fan faves...let's face it, those are the peeps coming to your shows anyway. So why not shake it up a bit for them? Girl Gone Bad? Fools? So this Is Love? The Full Bug? Bottoms Up? On Fire? Hell, at least put Yankee Rose and Tobacco Road in there.

He has to play the songs EVERYONE knows. There is a reason these guys play the songs they do. These songs sell tickets. As much as I loved hearing 'Good Enough' in Tampa and '5150' in MYB these songs seem to suck the life out of much of the audience. The up front fanatics where into GE but when you look at the common people they don't know the song and want to hear Top of the World.... again. There are the 10% of people that want to hear the 'unpopular' songs but those songs don't sell tickets.

Good Enough and Judgment Day were by far the audience highlights at my show. Guys and gals that see Sam or Dave solo, KNOW the deal. They don't wanna hear Right Now and Jump again, in lieu of some long lost track like Mine all Mine or High Hopes.

I'd say it's more like 70%, not 10. They certainly don't have to play the songs everyone knows; sure they gotta throw in 3 or 4 anthems, agreed, but NOT ten or 15. Hell, half a dozen tracks at Sam's show we didn't even KNOW, 'cause the album hasn't been released yet.

Van Halen's different. Yeah, as a group they gotta consider the wider market. But solo outings have a lot more leeway, 'cause the solo fan base knows more of the catalogues.

I'd like to see Dave but the problem to me is that if he seems to keep doing the same set list/show over & over again, its like why bother seeing it again?

Now, I'm not saying don't do the same set list on a particular tour, thats one thing. But Dave has pretty much had this same set list at every show since 99.

And at this point, its basically only Dave fans who going to see him anyway so why not give those fans something.

Of course, at least Dave is actually out there playing so thats something.
    Van Halen Live: 15 shows.
Have I seen my last one?
